I heard about Doomerboards through MtPain27's video about Auger Zenith, which convinced me to play it and holy shit, what a fucking masterpiece.
So what are some of the projects that you think are the best/most proud of/best showcase doomerboards to new players?
If time permits, I am planning to play through them all, but I am curious what doomerboards themselves think what some of their best works are.

All the DBP city themes are my favorites because city is my favorite theme because of how varied it is, there's been so many awesome interpretations of the city theme:
DBPs #10 A Duke Nukem 3D hybrid #14 Dystopian city #26 French steampunk city #27 Vacation themed cities #33 Film noir aesthetic city #38 Ruined and buried city in a dusty green swamp (contains my best map) #40 Haunted carnivals in Texan cities

Auger Zenith is indeed, pretty great. That project theme yielded the most excitement from the mappers I think.
There's a very similar approach to every project, and when mappers abide by it, the results are fantastic. I'm a little biased when I say they're all good.
Since these have been getting played more, I've been watching people's video playthroughs and streams and tailoring my playtesting feedback on every new project to address any minor inconveniences that I see players have in past ones, like getting lost, or not having enough ammo/health. When I look back at older ones, I do see maps that have little annoyances that probably wouldn't get past my testing feedback today. Not to dig on our past projects, but I'm of the opinion that the newer ones are always better for this reason.
In the last couple years I feel like the playtesters and I have a pretty good groove of what makes a good map, as I've almost never seen a video of someone playing any DBP and having much to say about what they dislike about it. In development, I think about new players more often than I think about highly skilled veteran Doomers when it comes to these projects. (new players are the underdogs, veteran players already have access to everything)
You'll need a lot of free time to play all of them. There's a lot of interesting themes. I usually try to think of themes I wish there were more wads that had when I pitch the project ideas that are made here. Since the approach to these projects is largely the same every time -- just make short, not-too-hard, vanilla/limitremoving Doom 2 maps using these new supplied textures, -- I would recommend just going through the catalog and picking out any one with a theme that speaks to you.

joe-ilya , while usually I am not the biggest fan of city maps, some of those themes look really interesting, especially #38, I love the ruin aesthetics. 40oz , fair, I expected an answer like this. It's difficult for a creator to answer what their favorite creations are. I'll check out the themes and look for what seems the most interesting to me.

DBP29 Morbid Autumn was the first DBP I played and what convinced me to join. It's a very gothic theme. It contains one of my favorite maps of all time, MAP04: Norwich Lane, which is dripping with detailed atmosphere.

I think picking a theme that looks interesting to you and playing it is probably the best way to go but I'll give a couple of recommendations/comments.
DBP27: 10 Day Vacation was the first I played and it's my personal favorite of the ones before my time. It really stood out from a lot of what was coming out around that time because of the light-hearted tropical theme and the fairly easygoing (for the most part) gameplay. MAP01: The Title is my all-time favorite DBP map and I stole some of its ideas for my DBP33 map.
I'll second LunchLunch's DBP29: Morbid Autumn recommendation as that one is also great. It's probably a good follow up to AUGER;ZENITH because there's a lot of custom props created for it and some maps, particularly MAP04, have a really strong atmosphere.
Of the stuff I've been around for, I have a soft spot for DBP33: Rainy Days in Casablanca. Just be sure to play the bugfixed version up on the idgames archive, I'm not sure if the DW thread ever got updated with it (not sure which version is linked on the main page here either). I love noir and like mapping more realistic/city-style locales so this was my favorite DBP I took part in until DBP37 came along. Like AZ, it's got some nice rain effects (done a bit differently here), a pretty moody atmosphere and a nice soundtrack (very jazzy). My map here is my second ever map, I think it's one of my better ones.
Glad to hear DBP38 seems interesting to you, I'm a bit biased but I think its good as well. 37's a hard act to follow though and I feel that one got a bit overlooked as a result. It's very different from 37 though, so just beware of that. I have somewhat mixed feelings on my map for this one, tried doing something a bit more atmospheric like DBP29's MAP04 but I don't think it quite worked out the way I wanted it to. Not sure if it's his best DBP map but I'll agree that Joe's map here is pretty good and one of his best.

I have not played many sets from before A;Z ,but the ones I tried really stood out to me.
DBP33: Rainy Days in Casablanca is my personal favorite and pretty much convinced me to start mapping here. The theme is super unique and I've never seen something like this before.I always had a soft spot for realistic city maps. Unfortunately it's quite short. Really makes me wish I wash here back then.
DBP23: Evil Egypt is another great set. As a huge Serious Sam fan it's always a blast to play through. There are many slower paced maps in the set as well, not just pure action. The title describes it well enough.
DBP39: Carnage Oasis is probably the post-a;z set I enjoy the most. Might have to do something with the recurring desert theme. Many versatile maps here as well with great midi choices. It also includes one of my proudest levels.

Well 3 people so far recommended DBP 33, that must be a really special one then, so I will either play that one next or DBP 29, because I am now also really curious about map 04, I love me a map with great atmosphere and DBP 38, cuz I love ruins and love to know what joe-ilya's best map is. I'll also look out for the other recommendations. mayhemicdestrvctor, do you have any other DBP's you really like?

I ment do you have any other favorite DBP except for auger zenith. Auger zenith is great, it's one of my favorite wads of all time. Do you mean map 5? There is an invul secret you can get right before that fight to help you out.

So I have played through DBP 33 and DBP 29 and I had a lot of fun with both of them, but between the 2 DBP 29 is a clear favorite for me.
The theme of DBP 33 worked out really well, between the music and different locations you go to. it felt like I was an private investigator trying to solve a murder mystery, even tho I commited all the murder. Because fuck them demons. The casino level was my favorite. I liked how you could interact with the tables and how the arrows pointed to the games rigged in your favor, how you could order a drink from the bar. Love it. These type of 'non-doom' things in doom just make me smile. Map 4 was also a really good one, especially the beginning, an harbor just fits nicerly in a noir theme. And the rest of the maps were fun too. I am not the biggest fan of city levels (I also don't hate them), so there wasn't much that stood out to me in those levels. In the same way there was also nothing really negative about them. I had fun playing them and thats why I play doom. Al though I am glad there weren't that many maps because I dont think I would have found the theme interesting much longer, there is just so much you can do with white, grey, black and red.
DBP 29 was just awesome. I wanted to play it to check out map 4 for its atmosphere, but every map was atmospheric imo. But map 4, holy fuck. I dont think I ever played a map that kept my on my toes for the whole map, constantly having the feeling that someone or something was watching me, by just atmosphere alone. The atmosphere in that map was unmatched. One of my favorite maps I ever played. Map 4 is a tough act to follow, but I think both map 5 and map 6 did a great job of doing that. I am just a sucker for underground bases type of maps, especially when there is a big open space, I just think its cool, simple as that. And map 6 the lay-out was just incredible, it felt like a mini adventure map. It was just fun to explore the castle and its surroundings. Map 7 can fuck off tho, the fights were annoying and I don't know how to get any of the secrets legit (I found the button to open the first secret but I couldnt push without idclip and the other secret I just no clipped to them). The rest of maps were a bit less distinguishable imo, but still all really fun, I had a great time playing this one.
So for everyone who worked on these DBP's, thank you, I had a great time playing through them and it made me excited to play more DBP's. And also thank you for not ending the wads with Icon of Sin, because fuck that. Not sure which when I will play next, a lot of them look interesting.
