Thought I'd put my money where my mouth is and experiment with a cell-shaded DM map. Figured that I'd post updates for this shit of a project to try and keep myself motivated. In theory this should be vanilla compatible. Such is my genius. Basic square room that should take 5 minutes to make, actually took five fucking hours. Working on a room that isn't square. Fucking tragic mistake. Early work in progress, nothing is finished, just making sure that what I'm attempting to do here is actually possible.

FUCKING DOOR LOL
Haha this is awesome. Try planning the map layout on paper first to use as a reference, make the thing very basic and test it with some bots to see if its any good so it wont be too difficult to make changes if you decide its too small or needs an extra room or something. Once you got the map as you want it, move on to do all the texture stuff afterwards.

I figured I'd make the rooms in an individual, modular fashion, hence the FUCKING DOOR LOL placeholders where the connective bridges will be. If the map turns out to be too small then additional modules can be added in. As for texturing afterwards... yeah, that's normally what I would recommend as well. But since the cell-shaded effect is utterly dependent on texture placement, things fall to pieces very, very quickly if a floor is the wrong height / a wall is a pixel too long. And a mistake uncorrected exacerbates itself over time; one wrong placement means everything else built on top of it will also be wrong. I should probably make 'grid' texture to ensure that everything lines up in 16 / 8 unit increments, but if I'm going to spend time doing that then I'd be as well using the actual real textures and spot the problems as and when they arise.

Is that Doom Builder 1? O_o you are a hipster. Not surprised a square room took you 5 hours, if you're using that crap. I warmly recommend you to check out Doom Builder 2 or GZDoom Builder.
Anyway, that's some damn nice textures, good luck. Also you have my respect for making a vanilla map.

Windows 7 was the fucking best. Similar to XP but more modernized. It was perfect, but then I woke up one morning and had Windows 10. I was never asked to confirm the update (I would have said no). Instead my computer just updated on its own. A horrible day, and it's never been the same since. I mean just look at this. I never used to have these sort of problems before. I know it's not necessarily a fault of Windows 10 (probably just my outdated junk PC), but glitches aside I don't like the layout design of Windows 10 either. The start menu looks like a touch screen tablet interface and everything else is harder to find. This abomination was taken only a few days ago actually:

Today. One finished corridor. Playing with textures to try and get a nice burny lava effect.

Figured the central 'mosh pit' of the map should be a cathedral-like structure. But industrial. And with stained glass windows. I'll need at least six different window designs, plus one massive one in the middle that should be something very special. Each design will depict different aspects of the doom community / specific incidents worth celebrating. Here's the first design; I call it 'The (content removed) Take Back Feminism' and it is a fucking work of ART, baby. Anyway, I thought why not have a SUPER FUN COMPETITION TIME with you faggots. Provided above is a BLANK TEMPLATE (OMG!) for you to design your own stained glass window depicting the community's greatest moments. Don't worry if you can't draw; I'll be redoing your ideas anyway. Criteria for winning is making me laugh. The prize for winning is fuck all, unless you count having me trace over your masterpiece and including it in a deathmatch wad. In which case congratulations, you won something. Get working. Tick tock.

The Great Castration Of Lord Limpus Dickus: Transcendence Into The Realm Of Trans (1897)There are many marvelous and wonderful works on display at Uffizi Gallery in Tuscany, Italy. And while most of them are notable for their intrinsic display of heroic masculinity, this one particular portrait has been preserved for a variety of different reasons. Recovered from the fiery depths of hell, it has since become a popular and recognized symbol worldwide. A lost relic of time that belongs to transitioning period, capturing a moment where hell was cast aside and banished (deleted) forever. The cause? Removal of said masculinity. Full-on disembowelment occurred primarily following this castration process, causing a spraying of bloody diarrhea all over the bodies of those in authority. Those who crafted the laws of speech and order. This event was not unlike that of a flailing garden (poop) hose with epilepsy. So then, let us never forget these golden times which were once dear to us all.

Well, my hopes weren't high. Ritual disembowelment it is. I'll call this one The Fool. Thanks for the inspiration.

There's been some great doomworld moments, like when DarkRevived188 described a young girl he was stalking on facebook to not know she was into him yet. Dark exodus' Auferstehung, which was inflated with automatically generated maps and stolen graphics that he claimed to have made himself and dug his own grave by (very poorly) bullying everyone who brought it to his attention. AndrewBs girlfriend threads and vasectomy announcement thread I'm about to cry at the realization that truly epic shit of those proportions will probably never happen again, despite that the population of morons on the internet is about the same.

The "Bird Boy" thread comes to mind. That was a big one for me, as it contained at least five or six pages of pure comedy gold. Unfortunately it was sent to Post Hell and is now permanently gone forever. Sigh...
This dude had an idea for a game using the Doom engine in which you'd play as a "bird boy" or something. Everyone laughed at it, and he got super defensive and started cussing everyone out. It was hilarious, and then he was banned. Memes followed, in his honor of course.
RIP, the boy who dared to be a bird.

Hey dn, would you consider doing a stained glass window that depicts a guy chopping his penis off? I feel like this would go well with the overall theme.

How about one where man touches his new moobies?
I remember the funniest thread, where a boy submitted his map in a WAD that had all of Doom II in it multiple times. He got ridiculed, and then he threatened to send a bomb. I think it was dn that replied something like "If your bombs are like you maps, I can expect a rancid bottle of cat piss to come flying through my window any moment now!" I laughed my ass off for hours on that one!

Scifista made a blank texture pack that I found very useful when making my last map. It basically allowed me to speed up the process of building the structure and layout of the map, setting up of linedef actions, and thing placement without the compulsion of fixing every little texture alignment issue which tends to drain my time and will to live.

Maybe you could use some help. I'm not sure how compatible your mapping method is with most people, but maybe we could pump out a few deathmatch layouts for you and you can detail and texture them.
