Didn't really see a video thread here or anything but thought I would share. I stumbled upon the DBP series thanks to the banning of the projects over at DW, and I quite like these mapsets. I'm not a great speedrunner (or really one at all I guess) but I do play a pretty niche category and submit demos to the archive. I also record commentary over the demos and put them on Youtube.
I hope to record demos for all of the DBP and I have a handful under my belt so far, hope you folks enjoy and keep up the great mapping work.

AskYourDrAboutUVFastThank you for sharing! I love your pauses with the down-to-earth explanation of the strategy and insights. It is not something one frequently sees in DOOM demos.

Thanks, I enjoy picking apart the fights. Its hard to balance explaining whats going on, showing off the maps and also trying to go fast for the speedrun.

I think this is the hardest map in this set due to minimal health pickups and no SSG. Took me many attempts.

Nice run, as usual. Mobile Arch-Viles can actually be a tad easier with --fast, as they tend to attack more and move less, making them easier to target.

Gotta take any advantages you can get. There are some drawbacks as they become very good at pinning you into cover and limiting mobility especially in groups. Turret archies also get a huge buff on fast as the basically attack on sight after being woke up.

Nice one. I absolutely adore non-linear maps, even though they can get confusing. It's not trivial to design a non-linear map with no exploits that allow meaningful portions of the level to be slipped.

Thanks for the playthrough. Youre welcome. It was great fun.
I didn't forget about this series, just so many other wads and so little time on my end.

It definitely feels sweet finishing a map with 100% kills and 0 ammo. Even better if you had had 1% health left.

Toughest map in the set imo. The drop-in room with 25 shotgunners is torture :]

Whats the deal with the huge amount of rockets given out at the end of this map?

i forgot to remove them. There was a piece of testing feedback that this map was a little long and MAP07 ended kinda abruptly so i quickly swapped the endings shortly before release.

I see, could certainly have used those rockets for the MAP07 final fight which is very tough on fast monsters. Probably the hardest fight in the wad imo.

Great videos. 👍
Why do you often avoid picking up a soulsphere when at 100% health? For psychological reasons, or am I missing something?

Great videos. 👍 Why do you often avoid picking up a soulsphere when at 100% health? For psychological reasons, or am I missing something? I couldn't say exactly why, but these were some of the very first demos I recorded (about 1 year old now) and I was certainly playing more for survivability than speed back then. These days I would be more likely to take a powerup early instead of backtracking to pick it up later if it is out of the way.
In map08 of dbp02 specifically, there are some parts that are so dangerous on -fast that I felt like I needed the overcharged health to complete them with any reliability. So I suppose I would rather take a death in the easier areas because I saved the powerup, as opposed to getting to a hard part with less then optimal conditions and having a higher chance of dying. I don't know if that actually makes sense or is a good strategy, but that was probably the thinking at the time.
