Low effort but probably fun PvP gameplay mod idea.
Deathmatch or CTF gamemode
All players are archviles.
Players's starting weapon (pistol replacement) resembles a super fast hitscan weapon. does no damage, makes no fire sound, and no graphics. You can run while holding the fire button as much as you want.
If the fired hitscan line connects with a target, the firing player loses all of their current velocity to freeze in the attack state and initiate the archvile flame.
The targetted player has to run out of the sight of the firing player before the archvile flame is finished to avoid taking a one hit kill
if two opponents fire at each other at the same time and the attacks connect with each other, both are frozen in the attack state and whoever was targetted first will die. You cannot cancel the attack once initiated. You have to wait for the time to run out.
Other players can finish another's attack if their target gets out of their sight.
example: Suppose you target a player that is currently being targetted by another player's archvile flame. You and the firing player will both be frozen in the attack state while the targetted player tries to escape from both you and the other player. If the targetted player stays in sight of the first firing player, the first firing player will get the kill. However, if the targetted player escapes the first player's sight but remains in yours, you will inherit whatever time is left from the first firing player's attack, allowing you to get a kill in a shorter attack state. It would be the defensive team's strategy to get into position and form a network of inescapable targetting.
Free idea you can steal. I'm not gonna write the decorate for it but if someone is capable of it I'll offer my support in other ways (i.e. playtesting or graphics.)
