also thanks to lunchlunch who has given me much more advice on how to make levels loop and brach and stuff i feel like he deserves to get some credit because he taught me a lot of that lately (;

i have a really cool idea for a wad.
basically this would be taking any premise or gimmick that a level in Doom 2 is designed around and just creating your own take on it. your own take on the level tho could be anything.
this is a community project i 'm adding this now cuz some one just asked. sorry , should 've made it more clear from the beginning
the idea is extremely exciting to me because of just every thing we know about mapping today. and we know about all those flaws that doom 2 does have. we really could make all of their old ideas work much better today especially in one of doom 2's worst maps because i personally hate a lot of these levels really much. many others also criticize the levels of doom 2 a lot.
for example, the crusher level is designed around a crusher device that brutally crushes and dismembers a spider mastermind. cry
The general idea on this is just taking the fact that the level has to have a crusher device and designing your own map , but it just needs to have that crusher.
another example is the circle of death or the o of destruction , you would need to do a level that has the circle in the middle but every thing else is really up to you , enemy encounters , keys , ammo pick ups , puzzles , anything really. not even the length or complexity of a level. i personally find it really nice when you play 2 giant maps and then suddenly there s another level after those two that is much harder but also shorter , that really changes up the pacing and gives it some sense of surprise and variety.
it is encouraged to also stick a little bit to every other theme in that level such as the dark room at the beginning of the crusher or the introduction of the revenants. or the general feel and texturing of the levels such as map 14 being brown and having water but this is also not a necessity.
this however is only encouraged and not a necessity.
however there are some other weird cases such as tricks and traps. everyone in tricks and traps remembers the level for being a bunch of rooms with enemies in it. it is not that spectacular now , i mean back then it was , i am not trying to say you really have to stick to creating 8 rooms with a few monsters in it - this level really is meant to surprise the player so this level could just as well be like any other level EXCEPT there are nasty traps every where and the level generally being more difficult.
