hi. so there aren 't many wads made for brutal doom except the hell on earth starter pack but even that is like 5 years ago now and i have not seen any good wad 's for brutal doom coming out or even project brutality.i have once made a wad for brutal doom which can be played either in v20 or v21. the thing is version 21 makes it a bit more challenging but it has the flashlight while v20 does not have that but is a bit easier. so i thought why don 't we make a wad for that mod ? i really like the faster and more intensified combat of it really much and i honestly could play an entire mega wad with brutal doom. so yeah i would really like to have a wad that not only works well with it but was made specifically for brutal doom. and to get the ball rollin' i have already made one map.
also just because i said megawad doesn 't mean it really has to be one , that can either mean we can also have less or even more maps since this is a zdoom based mod anyway and we will use udmf. the size of the project ( the map count ) would be based on how many people would want to submit a map for this.
if you have any suggestions or ideas for this , let me know , i 'm excited to listen to your opinions and thoughts.
here 's another thing , in my wad , there 's a lot of resources already , there 's a lot of textures i 've imported from realm667 to get that darker brutal doom theme going. if you submit a map you aren 't forced to use this theme at all , you can also make some thing hellish of course , or you could do something with marble or something completely outside too , but it has to be playtested with brutal doom for the gameplay 's sake. try to make it challenging but also not impossible to play. you can post your submissions in this thread. so far i only have 1 map so you probably should just download the wad , change the map settings to map02 and erase everything so you can start over.
the themes of the map are not really set yet , start with a theme you like , we don 't need to force a set amount of levels in one theme such as having 7 tech bases , 7 hell levels and 7 levels outside. it 's just an example but the theme and amount of levels for one theme is also based on how many people want to submit. so if we , for example , have 20 tech base levels but like 5 hell levels , it 's fine too , but for the sake of the pacing in the wad i would probably have the first 10 levels to be tech base and level 11 - 15 hell , and from that point on i would continue having tech levels.
so yeah ... if you 're intersted and you want to build a map then feel free to tell me here first. or if you read this and don 't really have any thing to say it 's fine too but if you just send a map in , i would decide myself where in the wad to put it and i would also recommend you use the textures in the wad. you 're not forced to and if you use textures that aren 't even in the wad i could add them to the wad but it would make things complicated so please use the textures in the wad. also using vanilla stuff only is allowed too as long as the gameplay is brutal doom tested , but it would just kinda clash so it probably wouldn 't be next to the other themes in the wad.
more details to the gameplay : zdoom has those jumping and crouching actions too , and brutal doom also has things like grenades and headshots , it has teh demon rune which can make the player pick up barrels and stuff . you aren 't forced to use these things but it is very much encouraged by me to make the player have to actually use the things to get ahead. for example , using barrels to save up ammo or using head shots to save ammo as well. and in general because you have more ammo types such as pistol bullets and different thicker bullets for the minigun and the uac battle rifle gives you more possibilities to play around with soldier enemies who drop pistols and the other zombies who drop an axe. also the player has jump kicks which he can use if an enemies comes near because that makes a small enemy not being able to attack for a few seconds , that can give the player some room to breathe. playing around with that is also encouraged as i really love this feature. there also are brutal doom 's iron sides for many weapons so make sure to utilize this feature as well by having enemies placed on a place that is further away such as turreted enemies. revenants or soldiers work well.
