does anyone have any recommendations for a sound replacement for the arachnatron walking sound?
id like to use arachnatrons in my maps more often but its so obnoxious.

Personally I'm against replacing sounds and sprites unless it ties into a project's theme. If I set that bias aside, I could see the AT-ST sound working but that's still just gonna be a loud, repetitive, mechanical noise.

Not to sound offensive, but I was under impression the monster's name is spelled "arachn otron". Here is doomwiki entrance on it: doomwiki.org/wiki/ArachnotronAlso, PC Doom is loud by design, if you fix one instance of overused sound you'll like find an issue with something else. Revenants sounds are not easy on ears either, especially if you use a source port which allows and is configured to use more sound channels. Otherwise, I don't have suggestions for replacement, unfortunately. Tangerine Nightmare managed to replace the sprites but not the sound, I'm surprised I never paid attention to this, but then again, I never found Arachnotron's sounds obnoxious. Or Revenants' wakeup call for that reason. Checking the number of sound channels in my PrBoom+ configuration reveals I have it set to 8, that is, same as vanilla I think, which might be the reason why.

Well, that can be replaced with a better one, simply because better ones do exist, not that its replacement is justified per se.
But if you meant replacing walking sound with firing sound, that's epic trolling. It will tear up several micro black holes in brain at once.

Making the arachnotron do only one stomping sound in one walking cycle instead of two stomps per cycle through dehacked, helps reduce the obnoxiousness by a lot, and lets the other idle roaming sound play.
