i really dont like to read what people think about me. Good or bad. (e.g. i much prefer to read I like 40oz's maps over something like 40oz is a good mapper.)

I especially dont wanna read what people have to say when commanded to do so. (under threat of ban, no less)

i dont do what i do for the compliments. Also thread title is provably false. Im pretty sure mappers like pcorf and joe ilya have me beat in quantity of maps made.

I got permanently banned for making this exact same thread on Doomworld.

Anyway, this thread isn't about me or DW, please resume posting nice things about 40oz.

To be fair though, those two statements, while definitely not the same, are moving in the same general direction.  They both are saying something positive about what you've created.  The main difference is that one tries to make an objective statement that your maps are good, period.  While the other simply says that the speaker himself appreciates your maps, whether or not anyone else feels the same.  I certainly see the difference in the two statements, but in colloquial speech often we see that someone will say something is good when he really means that he enjoys it.  He wasn't necessarily proclaiming objective goodness, even though his words technically say just that.  For example, I might say "This pistachio ice cream is delicious!", when a fair number of people hate pistachio flavor.  I wasn't saying pistachio flavored ice cream is objectively delicious, just that I think it is.

Out of sheer curiousity, I attempted to learn how many maps 40oz has released.  However, this is not an exact science, since he may have 800 maps on his hard drive that he's never shared with anyone.  Additionally, some projects may not have been uploaded to /idgames, and certain map counts within certain projects are murky.  From what I can surmise, he's created somewhere around 120 maps, give or take a few.  If I am wrong, I apologize.  I did my best with the resources I have access to.  Still, that's pretty damn impressive to me!

EDIT:  To 40oz's point though, no he isn't the most prolific mapper ever.  40oz is correct that joe-ilya has made more maps, and there are other mappers who began mapping earlier in the 2000's, such as Phobus, who have created and released more maps.

40oz that's very interesting to read about. I'm nowhere near as well known as you, but I've had to endure my own share of hate as well, so I understand you little.
