I just started watching eLer Creative's videos where he plays Evil Egypt with the mods Legion of Bones and High Noon Drifter, and I was blown away. This pairing looks like it was made for each other. It's almost like a whole new game! eLer also plays in a really entertaining way. I only know english, so I don't understand what he's saying in the video, but he appears to me to be acting like the hero here. Not just blatantly playing it for fun and reacting as most players do. It's like HE IS THE GUY. It seems like he learned the levels and made a pre-scripted plan of action and acted it out for the videos. Does it seem like that for anyone else? I really hope in the future he chooses more doomer boards projects to star in. I don't really follow the gameplay mod scene much, but I know there's a lot of content out there. I'm sure the dbps have to have good pairings with other gameplay mods out there. It makes me wonder if designing DBP themes around a particular gameplay mod in mind is worth doing, so that players like me, who prefer vanilla gameplay and players like him who like new weapons and monsters would get the best of both worlds. It would be cool to see people find the right mods for the right dbps and make the most compelling viewing experience. The videos were incredibly entertaining to watch, and because it's been so long since I've worked on DBP23, seeing it played with this mod was like seeing it with fresh eyes again. If anyone knows eLer Creative, please point him to this thread and let him know I'm so grateful for his videos.

I caught this video a few weeks after AUGER;ZENITH was released. This video pairs A;Z with Trailblazer, a less good pairing, but in general a great mod that looks really fun to play. Having kept my distance from the ZDoom gameplay modding scene for so long, it appears as though the norm is moving in the direction of making these weapon/gameplay mods resemble entire player characters with personalities. In Trailblazer, you take the role of Malcolm Striker. How cool would it be if we planned a doomer boards project theme as " something something: starring Malcolm Striker" with the world being made in the kind of environment we could see Malcolm Striker existing in? The projects would still be made and tested in -complevel 2, so the option to play in vanilla doom would always be available, but if you want to, you could get a "fuller" experience by playing it with the mod. These would make awesome videos to watch. That way players can get the best of both worlds.

@contracommando once suggested making a "Deathwish" themed doomer boards project. At the time I heard it, it seemed like an incomplete idea. I don't know how many people here have the means to work on a gameplay mod, but if volunteers were interested in making a quality zdoom gameplay mod that resembled the likenesses of Death Wish, I would totally be on board with putting together some Doom textures that make doom look like the set the movie was shot in. Doomer Boards Project mappers would make our maps the way we usually do -- just fun vanilla doom 2 stuff, tested with vanilla gameplay, and then the Deathwish gameplay mod could be recommended as an extended add-on to complete the experience. First and foremost, the dbp has to be good doom maps. Both the doomer boards maps, and the gameplay mod would need to function and play well independently of each other. If there are existing character-driven gameplay mods around that play well with regular vanilla doom maps, I think making doomer boards projects that pair well with them would be a really fun and bountiful direction to move the project in.

shameless self-promotion: next public build of k8vavoom will support Legion Of Bones v1.05 (the latest version for the time being) without any additional efforts from the user.
Because I Can! ;-)

Sometimes I'll see a YouTube video for a DOOM map I created and get excited, but as soon as I see it has a gameplay mod, I shut the video off.

lunchlunch really??? Dude that's so funny because I used to be that exact same way. I was looking at some old posts from only a couple years ago, and I actually genuinely remember thinking at that time that gameplay mods were coming to ruin doom. Some gameplay mods will just straight up ruin a map, but I often see most maps we make for doomer boards project are pretty stable even in gameplay mods. There was a time where monster randomizers and overpowered weapons and crazy abilities would trivialize an entire map's design, but it seems rarer in recent times. I'm pretty sure gameplay mods are getting better, even though I'm personally not interested in playing them myself. Vanilla gameplay will always rule IMO. But I find the gameplay mods are fun to watch especially by someone who's good with it.

As a modder, it's always nice to find map packs that fit perfectly with a mod that you're working on. One thing I like about the DBP is that there's so many unorthodox map theme that lend themselves perfectly to specific mods. Case in point, Lilywhite Lilith.

Did a playthrough of DBP 39: Carnage Oasis with a mod called Iron Snail. Iron snail is essentially Doom metal slugs and one of the best "What if X game was done in Doom" mods. It really is the perfect map pack for this mod.
