40oz, I would argue that people like to check whether other people hold the same opinion about X (where X is not just movies) as they do. This is by the way the real cause behind the "UV or bust" mentality, having played the wad on different difficulty means your experiences don't match those who played on UV, and if the wad is a community classic that was released long-time ago, means everyone has been handling it on UV by now while you've just stumbled upon it and find it to be way too much. Now for some this may be lack of confidence and the need for confirmation, but this is also not the only thing why it happens. Some people prefer to make friends around shared interests rather than mutual helpfulness. So naturally there is an instinct to look out for strangers who might become such friends, and it probably kicks in even when there is no actual way to contact that person. Then again the rotten tomatoes rating or a particular review may also be the subject of discussion, and when there is a flood of negative reviews it feels like you are not going to find someone who takes the same stance as you if your stance is positive (prediction of general attitude by analyzing the sample, it's how human brain works).

if you know the movies are good then you dont need rotten tomatoes confirmation Everyone needs to have the same opinion as me on every topic, if not, I hate them. But in all seriousness, I dislike how it drives public opinion on movies. I was equally annoyed that one of my favorite restaurants was given a low rating by some half-wit for idiotic reasons. They were upset that a fine dining place doesn't serve French fries for their child. Obviously this person is some sweaty fat rube that should be flogged. If he wanted to feed his child French fries, than go to fucking McDonalds.

But in all seriousness, I dislike how it drives public opinion on movies. Does it really? More than IMDB? If he wanted to feed his child French fries, than go to fucking McDonalds. So because my kid won't eat fancy things, I should limit myself to McDonalds? It's hard to get children to eat complicated stuff. I don't think I've ever been to a restaurant "fine" enough that didn't understand it and have a kid-friendly option like French fries. Obviously it's a douche place. BTW, I'm not the guy who left that review.

They don't have a kids menu because they don't want retarded children fucking up the dining experience for normal people. This idea that *everything* has to be child friendly is completely insane: I don't want to see, hear, or smell a bunch of spastic brats squalling and spraying milk-sharts any place near my fucking steak.

They are also going to enjoy wine at an early age, responsibly. Right now, it is breast milk, but once they can eat grown up food, it is going to be that. I have eaten at a lot of Michelin star restaurants around the world, they don't serve French fries... Honestly, I think it is more douchebag-like to think that they should. No offense.

Thank you! I don't bring small children to these places. They should be left with a baby sitter. I would fucking hate to hear a screaming child when I am at a fancy restaurant.

There needs to be more childfree-friendly services. Because will fucking benefit normal people even if they not childfree.
P.S. "No dogs allowed" sign -> "No kids allowed" sign. Make it legal. I dare you.

P.S. "No dogs allowed" sign -> "No kids allowed" sign. Make it legal. I dare you. This already exists. Plenty of 18+ places, for example. Maybe some legislations limit the type of place that can apply "age discrimination"? I dunno. In the end, itt is about the client base that you wish to attract. I don't bring small children to these places. They should be left with a baby sitter. I would fucking hate to hear a screaming child when I am at a fancy restaurant. This is a perfectly fine attitude. The restaurant can make it more obvious, by explaining to people upfront that they are not for children, or even making themselves 18+ (or 16+, or whatever they want). Or they can not to, because they still want to be able to attract some clients with children. Then they can eat the negative review every once in a while. But if they post 18+, they will also get some negative reviews. The moral of the story? There is no moral. Any choice you make - someone can be unhappy with it. And if you serve clients, you have to be prepared to deal with customer reviews, including negative ones, including those which you think are unjustified.

dr_st, thanks! Yes 18+ is the solution I would go through. Now that I think of it it would cool to reclaim video gaming consoles for humanity by public pressure on the current oligopoly to accept, release and sell games for 18+ audience.
