Think about Doom strictly as a viewing experience, either in the form of YouTube videos, demo recordings, or live streams.
What things about the content can make or break the experience for you? What makes it a better watching experience?
- The source port used? - whether gameplay mods are or are not used? - the frames per second? - is there commentary? - The perceived difficulty of the wad or mod they are playing with? - are they using cosmetic only enhancements? - The midi playback? - The resolution? - OpenGL or software rendering? - texture filtering on or off? - smoothed edges or nice n pointy pixels? - lowest compatibility level or modern features? - music quality? - enhanced sounds? - Full status bar or enhanced hud? - speedrunning style or embracing the atmosphere of the map? - first time playthroughs or playing in a masterful way? - skilled player or newish? - is the player playing something youve played before or is it something new? - being able to interact in a chat either with the player or other viewers in the chat? - watch on PC? TV? Phone, tablet, other device?

TV? Phone, tablet, other device? Mm, I like more the commented streams of maps/wads that I played before and listen to their thoughts/opinions about it. You know, If I play a map that caught me in some way, I want to know if other players had the same experience or just to know what thoughts have about it. In terms of the game itself, I prefer watching it with a good resolution because it's more clear to see what's happening on screen. And yes, without any addon like "brutal doom" or similar (I don't like those kind of things xD) EDIT: OpenGL rendering... Just NO. Truecolor software always, babe!

I don't like watching people play with gameplay mods but I'll make an exception if it's something I'm involved with. There's pros and cons for different skill levels but generally I think it's more interesting if the player ultimately makes it through the map but has a few near-death experiences. I generally prefer watching people play something I'm familiar with and giving their thoughts on it but I sometimes like to watch stuff I haven't played without commentary.

Playthroughs with involved commentary, no mods unless they're cosmetic, a steady FPS of at least 20 and 240p quality.

Usually if I'm watching a video of DOOM, it's to see if I might be interested in a certain WAD. I'll usually be watching on my phone instead of my PC when looking for stuff to play, so I perfer higher resolution and framerate to see it clearly. Another important thing is to increase the brightness when recording if necessary. Some videos of darker WADS on Youtube are almost impossible to make out.
In terms of mods, I don't mind cosmetic stuff, but filtering makes videos look worse most of the time. I don't like commentary because I want to hear what the WAD sounds like. I'd perfer watching someone who knows what to do instead of someone who can't find the hole. In terms of the HUD, I just want to see the HUD that the WAD in question comes with. Same goes for rendering. If the WAD was made for OpenGL, I'd like to see it that way.
In short, I'd like to see the WAD played in a way suggested by its author.

As vanilla as possible but high res (720p and up).

For channels that review wads: - The player making video should have the skill and the willingness to complete a map they are reviewing with no cheats or TAS while making said video.

i really enjoy demos because i have the freedom to change the screen resolution and vieweing speed (in case i wanna see something in slow motion)
you can also use sound/music/graphic changes in the form of loading additional PWADs if you want and it wont affect the demo.
i like commentary sometimes but i also like the music and sound and depending on how much i want to hear that, the commentary can be intrusive. but in most cases commentary is good.

A boom source port without texture filtering No gameplay mods unless it's minor cosmetiks minimum 60fps ideally 120fps or above commentary is usually enjoyed provided they are actually talking about the demo and not babbling Any soundfonts are usually nice and make the player unique I prefer higher res to see clearer aswell as opengl renderer nice and pointy pixels ofc I would also like the player to not suck but noobish players can also give interesting feedback to use to balance easier maps which is also useful My opinion -Kuinen

Doom v1.2 spanned across three monitors. But I've never done it.

But watching Doom at 30FPS just feels chuggy and slow.
