I found this while browsing through some shit online:
Is crowdfunding WADs a thing now? Why does JMAA of all people expect to get over a thousand euros for this? Why would anyone want to crowdfund an average looking DOOM WAD?
"Funding isn't necessary but MIDI dude needs to pay rent ASAP" - what the fuck?
I can understand having a Patreon for something like Age of Hell, but this? Sophomoric maps like these have been uploaded every week en masse for eternity. If MIDI dude needs rent money so bad, I don't think relying on a Kickstarter for some DOOM maps made by an asshole who has been banned from every forum in existence is the best course of action.

When it comes to crowdfunding... it exists, so what? Are we supposed to assume people aren't gonna use it?
I don't really have a problem with anyone utilizing crowdfunding for anything. I think people who donate to kickstarters are pretty stupid, mostly. I don't really donate to any kickstarters even if I like the idea. After all, it's really not up to me to decide how others should spend their money.
I haven't reviewed those credits, they're pretty terrible and I don't need to see any of that. But if they are true, they don't sound like the actions of someone who is doing well with money, so I have a little more respect for this person than I do for, say, the creators of Cyberpunk 2077 that made an absurd marketing campaign and got massive waves of support and still delivered a shitty product.

Why shouldn't he ask for money? Now I won't donate and I don't think many people will either. But still he's making a product and I believe he has a right to ask money for it.
Also who is JMAA anyway? First time hearing of him.

It's not that that I assumed people aren't going to use Kickstarter/Patreon, it's that I assumed/didn't expect people to use it for simple DOOM WADs. After finding that Kickstarter, I looked into the situation and the only other DOOM project I could find was Age of Hell, which is vastly different in terms of potential resource expense than JMAA's mod. While I don't have a problem with it, it just seems a bit silly for such a project to have a Kickstarter page, I haven't ever seen anything like that done before. JMAA is more than welcome to do whatever he wants, for fun, monetary gain, reputation, etc. A lot of people would claim that a thing like this "goes against the spirit of modding", but that's pretty stupid too. Mods don't HAVE to be free by any means, but seeing a Kickstarter page for a DOOM WAD that seems to be on par with your basic stuff you see posted everyday is strange to say the least, and the fact that it was started by probably the most troublesome community member I know leaves a sour taste in regards to using this tactic. JMAA also released a game on Steam in the past with stolen assets from DOOM and Duke Nukem and reportedly harassed people who left negative reviews, so this just strikes me as another scam. And yes, Cyberpunk blows. CDPR's time as the "heroes/good guys/saviors of gaming" is probably up for good, and they deserve it. Unfortunately some people still feel obligated to defend them. I hope they are able to recover, because they are a talented studio, but their marketing tactics bit them in the ass. This is why I don't preorder shit unless it's a cheap indie game. It's also why I don't give big studios the benefit of the doubt when it comes to my money, even if they are one of the "good guys". |

I resent being forced to learn who JMAA is so I'm not gonna talk about him, but I don't think fundraising in order to pay musicians and/or artists for their contributions is necessarily a bad thing. I'm not internet famous so no-one's gonna kickstarter me but if I could I'd have custom, never-before-heard music for all my maps, all paid for by somebody else.

NO doubt it will but by the look of it (and watching some "dev" streams) I see no particular reason for people waste their coin on this particular thing. I mean, I saw much better wads, and these haven't gone for money. No sir. These were done for entertainment purposes. But still he's making a product and I believe he has a right to ask money for it. Not when the half of stuff he uses in the project are straight up public stuff, i.e. sprites, textures, some monsters. |

If the dude wants to make a gay-furry-whatever dating sim, he should be allowed to. Even if I think it's stupid. A few weeks ago someone released a DOOM dating simulator called "Doomed Love", and it recieved coverage by PCGamer (even though it was poorly written with basic spelling and grammatical errors). I'd say recording yourself threatening to bomb a mosque is a little more questionable. JMAA lives off of drama and screwing people over, anyone who donates to this project is either: (1) JMAA himself (2) JMAA's friend (3) Unaware of who JMAA is (4) Stupid |

I had some awkward experiences with JMAA on twitter. Got some pretty bad vibes from her from the get-go, but it only got worse as i heard more and more bad things.
If anything, with how much i was told from so many people i'm surprised people here don't know who she is, though honestly that's for the better... Though she probably knows it, given she's advertising that shit on entirely different communities like the Viscerafest discord server and Dwars' discord server, probably lots of others i'm also in too.
About the kickstarter itself, the mapset actually doesn't look bad at all, but i wouldn't pay any amount of money for it given it's not even anything groundbreaking or that impressive either.
