In Doom II, Episode 20 Gotcha! I get to the Arch Vile tower (second AV in the map) and the alcove to the BGF isn't/won't open. What am I doing wrong?

Go to your kitchen drawer, get the biggest and sharpest knife you have. Immediately drive the knife straight into your intimate area. You should feel excruciating pain and start bleeding profusely. The door with the BFG will open.
