I have completed E3M6 Mt. Erebus in all things but collecting the chainsaw. BigMacDavis makes it look easy to just jump over but the chainsaw platform for him is visibly lower than where he's at whereas when I play the map the chainsaw is higher than where I'm at! See below. How am I supposed to get over there? I've never found a switch to lower it. Mac at Mt. Erebus 6:33

You are supposed to shove a massive dildo up your ass and the platform will lower and allow you to grab it

According to the Doomwiki entry, the platform starts at the lower height, and rises up if you visit the small structure with the teleporter next to it. Checking linedef/sector tags in an editor pretty much confirms it. Thus, you should grab the chainsaw as soon as you arrive at the area.

Where do I collect this dildo? I'm using it right now, but I'll make sure to put it under your gf's pillow next time I visit.

You get more efficient results that way, instead of whatever's happening in this thread.

Wow, I didn't know that. Another place where the original game can screw you and make you miss something entirely. My first instinct when I teleport there is to jump over the chainsaw platform and later over the teleport box as it's much lower anyway.

If this thread didn't pop up I wouldn't even have thought to look for it. I knew about the chainsaw and how to get it back in the childhood, but I didn't know then about exit to secret level and what the secret level was. And by the way, when I first read xeepeep post, I assumed he was referring to the official way to get to secret level, because rocketting yourself is indeed the intended way to do it (although it is possible to do it with straferunning instead). Then I reread the topic title, looked at the picture and was confused, since you don't rocket yourself upwards in vanilla/chocolate. The advice would make sense to me in Gzdoom with rocket jumping enabled. There are also crazies that make/play maps designed around rocket jumping in Doom. Also, in regards to wiki, I often would look up article on pwad maps on it (for secrets or some kind of write-up about map's history), only to find "it's a stub" notice. Perhaps some OCD-affected individual could go and write stuff on a wiki for every map he plays? That would be a freaky, but amazing way to contribute to community.

40oz I think you just forgot, it's mandatory progression for both exits, no way you didn't notice the chainsaw in plain sight.

I knew about the chainsaw and how to get it back in the childhood, but I didn't know then about exit to secret level and what the secret level was. Funny how I went backwards about it. I learned about the cheat codes early on, so I warped around all levels, and into the secret levels as well. Once you see that E3M9 exits to E3M7, you understand that the secret exit is in E3M6. I am sure I found it through no-clipping way before I figured out that rocket jump thing. It should also be said that the rocket blast power differs between skill levels. When playing on easy - the power of the rocket itself will not be enough to send you into the box; you have to actually run backwards at exactly the same time to even reach the box boundary. I don't know of many things in DOOM which are actually harder on 'Easy', but this is one of them. I think you just forgot, it's mandatory progression for both exits, no way you didn't notice the chainsaw in plain sight Unless, of course you are playing on Easy, where you can get the blue key at the entrance to the marble building without ever going in. Yet another major difference between skill levels in this crazy level. For sure it's my favorite of the episode.
