I have to say, VR works very well with 2.5 D shooters. I think it works better than games with state of the art 3D graphics, because there is far less motion sickness. I am loving my new Oculus Quest 2, it has come a long way from the first iterations of Oculus. The fact that it is stand alone, and is wireless, is impressive. Playing Doom, and various mods feels like a whole new experience, I implore you to try it if you haven't. I am currently playing the Castlevania mod with it, and it is blowing me away.
Personally, I think VR will secure Doom's popularity in the coming decade(s).
I think getting an Oculus, or any other VR head-set makes a lot more sense than buying a new console. It is something that works along side PC, and offers an experience that you can't get with just a PC.
