Overview:
Hello Kiddies!
Welcome to my development thread for my current project: Area Nine! I figured I may as well make one seeing as the Deathmatch levels are playable and also just to announce this project's existence.
This is a limit removing Mutiny level set which adds a bunch of both new and edited textures, and currently midis composed by me. A lot of it is still work in progress and I don't have any single player levels to show off at the moment, but I do have three Deathmatch maps, one small, medium, and large in size. For those that aren't interested in deathmatching you can either check out the levels any way to see the style of design, or wait.
I would, however, highly appreciate testers for my DM levels *cough* Doomkid *cough* since I pretty much spent a majority of my time working on those first, and want to make sure they are good quality. I've been play testing with bots but they can be pretty stupid.
I consider all three "done" but will add touch ups in the future.
If you've played my (single player) levels before, expect the usual; lots of traps, unforgiving difficulty, tons of secrets, and side exploration. My biggest issue with Mutiny itself was how fucking big some of the levels could be and they'd just go on and get really tiring, so I'm trying to distance myself from that design.
Anywho! I'll post updates as I go, this is already three months worth of work and I don't know how long till it's finished.
The current wad has Maps 08-10 which are DM exclusive and Map 01 which is just an empty room.
Story:
In the distant future, human experimentation is at an all time high with
an unknowing populous being subjected to toxic gasses released in the air,
slowly eroding human tissue and turning people into brain dead mutants.
Those who are kidnapped are further mutated and fitted with weapons of war.
Once it's reached its highest peak, the disease spreads across nations
as the mutants maim and mutilate those that have not fully perished.
Once the world was on its knees, the governments and corporations responsible
send an army of cybernetic humans, created from victims that were captured,
tortured, and rebuilt, to clean up their own apocalypse, simply as a form of their
own entertainment.
You are one of the many cyborg agents sent to exterminate those that lurk
within every corner of the world. With you in particular being sent alone
to a clear a city that floats above the pacific ocean, code named Area Nine.
Levels:
01: Coastal Highway
02: City Center
03: Midtown
04: The Wasteland
05: Thalassophobia
06: The Sky Base
07: Disintegration
(Deathmatch only)
08: TURNPIKE
09: VAULT
10: ADRIFT
Screenshots:
(Also can someone help me this last screenshot?! Back when I was making textures for the original Mutiny I stumbled across an image of game that had a room similar to this, specifically the structure with the rooms and cat walk. Can any one help me find where this is from? I think it might be from some Quake level, but I can't remember. I just vaguely remember the one room and the fact it used almost only grey textures)
Q/A:
Q: Why is this considered a "mapset" for Mutiny?
A: A few reasons. Mostly because I feel like this is a sort of add on to the original wad, kinda like an expansion pack. This is a mixture of me feeling like that Mutiny was one of those wads that had it's own distinct textures that really aren't used for anything else, as well as sort of "making up" for my lack of levels in the original. Since all my levels ended up being scrapped for various reasons.
Q: Do you plan on making more levels?
A: If these ones are good enough, and people like them, I may turn this into a full megawad. I definitely intend on making more deathmatch levels with these textures, I can't pass it up.
Q: What's with all the Japanese everywhere?
A: Back in 2015, when I was trying to think of different creative ideas, I wanted to make a sort of neo Tokyo style megawad, where it had a set of ancient Japanese and Cyperpunk levels. This sorta project just kinda fit right in with the whole Cyberpunk bit. It is real Japanese, probably loosely translated as I'm using a list of proper translated words and phrases, but I'm sure there's some grammatical errors.
