Target PortsHere's a thing I've been working on. 40oz asked me to share and I've been too fucking lazy/busy with other shit to finish/post it. As it is, I'm missing some fun fringie ports, like CDoom, a DOS-only port by that crazy Carlos guy, as well as a couple of unofficial proof-of-concept MBF forks by AlexMax. If I get really ambitious, I'll dig up my limit-extending hacks of Chocolate Doom/Heretic/Hexen/Strife and put them on the list, too. Discuss. EDIT: It suddenly occurred to me that I never actually explained what I meant by "Targets". That's what lack of sleep & rushing around gets you, I suppose. This is a list of "targets" for potential projects, ports that are either useful for their strict standards (Chocolate Doom & PrBoom+, for example) or have a unique set of features from a design perspective.

You do not have those ports, or you want new and unique ports to be made ? Either way, CDOOM can be found on this website: dsdarchive.com/ports

Thank you for the edit, Giomancer lol I was about to ask you for a reminder about what this is but it is what I thought it is haha Pretty cool. On topic, I was inspired by ceejay and Lobo to check out EDGE, and it's got great modding potential. I tried out a few gameplay mods they recommend to me and it seems like a pretty cool underdog rival to ZDoom IMO. There's a lot of unexplored potential with it. We talked a little bit about textures using patches, (I'm pretty sure it's a given that that works in all ports I believe!) I have something pretty cool that I've been working on for a while that I want to show you. There is indeed a lot of potential with a small set of graphics.

The problem with GZDoom isn't even the Number Count muppet (Ah, ah, ah!) that runs it, it's that it is a gargantuan space amoeba that absorbs everything else. It has so many internal compatibility switches that it doesn't even care what you feed it, it'll just consume it and move on. Of *course* it's the most popular, because there's no defense against it: come up with a good idea, and not only will it manifest it first, it will —if necessary— eventually consume your version and grow compatibility for it. Consume. Grow.
A pox on their motherboards, I say.
Disagree? Look at the ports that people actually use, and you'll notice they've basically been forced to carve hiding spots in the Doomverse. Multiplayer. Compatibility. Purity. Smaller enhancements. Things either below the amoeba's attention or are an anathema to it.
That's essentially how this list began: "be the change you want to see", right? The original version of this list was simply a list of ports you could make wads for that GZDoom wouldn't like. I realized that it was a pointless endeavour and set it aside. A few years later, I picked up the list again and decided to repurpose it, this time simply ignoring the GZDoom behemoth. I'm no port programmer; fighting space monsters is not something I can do. What I *could* do was create things for ports I enjoyed using.
Like I mentioned in my first post, this isn't a complete list. Suggestions for ports to look at are always welcome, as well.

You want to go against the grain? EDGE!
I know for a fact that many old-timer (g)zdoomers really have a special dislike for poor old EDGE.
