Are there any styles of music you secretly like but you kinda hate that you like it? I'm talking about music that seems like it has nothing to do with anything you like but for some reason there's something about it that you can't let go?
Here's my vice. Lil' Xan
Lil Xan is this whack ass little skinny white kid mumble rapper from california with grills and face tattoos. His music is fuckin weird, and his lyrics hardly make any sense or say anything worth listening to. He famously suicided his career by saying Tupac is boring. What?
The lyrics are kinda repetitive, the beats are airy, he hardly articulates his words, there isn't a lot to it on the surface.
her pussy tastes like skittles what? hey yeah
you can really taste the rainbow what? i know
Why do i like it? When I listen to it I can't help but listen to it with deeper analysis. What's he really saying?
I wake up I throw up I feel like Im ded
I wake up I throw up I feel like Im ded
I wake up I throw up I feel like Im ded
I wake up I throw up I feel like Im ded
Lil Xan (or at least what his persona represents to me) is a troubled kid with a passion for rap who's addicted to painkillers way too young. Perhaps a kid with way more talent and promise than his music even lends. He has unexplored talent, and rather than avoiding the shame of addiction by working against his problems, he works in parallel with them. He acknowledges his drug addiction and the suffering associated with it.
fuk da teachers fuck 'uspension fuk detention
what it do for me nothin nada ey ey
It's pretty depressing. I'm appreciating not so much the music but the story his music creates. That his music reaches anyone at all speaks a lot about what our current generation of kids might be suffering through. emo rap maybe? I like it though. The words aren't very thought provoking; they're distilled. There's something very pure about what he says with his lyrics. I don't know how to explain it, it's just fascinating to me and I like to have it on in the background occasionally when I want to do some introspection about life.
