The Ending Quest is an Episode 1 replacement project for Heretic: Shadow of the Serpent Riders. The goal is to deliver 9 atmospheric, non linear, and detailed Heretic maps with fun, challenging gameplay. We currently have 5 maps which are complete, and 2 more which are currently in the works. The 2 remaining slots are technically open, but project leader DeathevokatioN has a few mappers in mind to fill these spots. This project is not compatible with vanilla Heretic and will require a limit-removing port such as ZDoom, Vavoom, etc. E1M1: "Where Serpents Ever Dwell" by DeathevokatioN E1M2: "Woeful Specters" by Egregor E1M3: "Key of Oppression(within the City of Screaming Statues)" by DeathevokatioN E1M4: "Sorcerers' Enclave" by Stormwalker a.k.a. Vordakk E1M5: "Master's Hammer" by DeathevokatioN Download link for 5-map demo: www.mediafire.com/download/kcq54251sv2b8e8/endquest.wad

registered to drop by and say that I'm looking forward to the final project. I remember playing E1M1 back when I was dipping my feet into Heretic and tapping Egregor is a great idea since he's pretty enthusiastic about Heretic, tho I have yet to play anything he's made beyond his D2INO level.

Thanks for the kind words, kmxexii! There has actually been a good amount of progress since that first post. Egregor has made a second level that is quite impressive, and another mapper(Cacowad I think?) has made a very cool map as well. I think Heretic fans will really enjoy this set when it's complete.

Hey Kmxexxi, thanks a lot for the support man, it means a lot that you registered to post in this thread, and I'm really looking forward to seeing your thoughts on the mapset when it's done! I made sure to choose mappers who were enthusiastic about Heretic and who didn't see the texture set as a limitation but rather as a means to express the vivid atmosphere that made Heretic so special to me.. I hope it turns out ok. Love your profile picture btw!! I'm looking to buy a gatefold vinyl off Blood Records of that album.

I got the CD boxed set when it came out plus the digipak re-releases of Terror 404 and I am the Night. I been diggin the album artwork on the remasters.

Sweet; this looks very nice! Shame it's been a while since I've been around over here, I would have loved to make a map for this. <3 Heretic.
Between this and Vordakk's pretty-looking "Templum Dormiens Dei" I got some catching up to do on maps to play!

This project is not compatible with vanilla Heretic and will require a limit-removing port such as ZDoom, Vavoom, etc. Do your maps currently only use vanilla features? Does it work with Heretic+? I'm really tired of this situation where I have to use ports like GZDoom, which don't even emulate Heretic correctly, when for Doom I have Eternity/PrBoom+. This is by no means an attack to your mod; I'm just complaining about the current state of software.

I must admit ignorance with regard to Heretic+ and what it can and can't run, but I know for a fact that my map does not use any boom or non-vanilla features. I'm not 100% positive about the other maps, but I feel like they are also using only the standard vanilla features. Sorry for the lack of info, hopefully DeathevokatioN will see this and respond with more knowledge. In the meantime I will try to run the project with Heretic+ myself and see if it works.

Hey Vordakk, would you be keen on helping me with the opening map while I try tie down the closing map? Having multiple projects happening to me at once is making me want to fly into the sun. haha
