So you're saying that lurkers should only be able to see the "toxic" side of this site, before they can see the good, do you realize that this is the worst way to get people to register here? There is no toxic side of this community. You are the community. It's not toxic by nature. It's the quality of the posting behavior that I allow users the autonomy to decide for themselves. If the site is toxic to you, then change it! Be nicer to your community members! Make better threads! Post more responsibly!

Are you willing to reopen them to public viewing? At the moment, no. There's a greater purpose to the mapping workshop forum that hasn't been fully realized yet. I don't consider it a crashing failure like other users here may believe already, it's just not done yet. Since I often see novice Doom mappers naturally congregate in private discords to share work-in-progress map screenshots and ask novice and potentially embarrassing editing questions, I think a layer of privacy from the public eye might help doomer boards mappers feel less shy about using that subforum to talk about mapping a bit more freely. I've had some thread ideas on the backburner that involve sharing underbaked maps that I'd normally be uncomfortable sharing out in public, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. It's on the agenda, so it's coming. I'd like mappers to use it for similar purposes. If the transparency of their message is important to them, they can use the other public subforums like Lobo just did. Doomer Boards Project subforum falls in that same category. Forum attachments allow mappers to attach individual map wad files and demo lumps quickly and easily to their posts. Watching the process unfold is a major contributing factor to the activity of the project, it's so mappers can feel comfortable sharing their unfinished stuff where the general public can't make their own assumptions about whether it's good or not before playing the final product. Alright - I don't agree with this reasoning, but I can accept that you have reasoned it out and come to a conclusion that can be explained. As I said before, that'll do for me.

Finally you give an answer! You should have said this from the start. I don't agree so much with it either, but it's mostly that I think that you are too optimistic about this but I would be glady proven wrong since seeing more mappers here would be cool.

But you didn't really, all you said in the thread you linked is : -I'm going to be changing the permissions of the Mapping Workshop and the Doomer Boards Project forum so that they are only viewable by registered Doomer Boards Members. The idea is to give these forums an extra layer of privacy from the eyes of neighboring doom communities and passersby. Which doesn't explain "why", no shit it's an extra layer of privacy, but why is it there? I often see novice Doom mappers naturally congregate in private discords to share work-in-progress map screenshots and ask novice and potentially embarrassing editing questions, I think a layer of privacy from the public eye might help doomer boards mappers feel less shy about using that subforum to talk about mapping a bit more freely. People use Discord because they want quick feedback on something small and/or WIPs, just because somebody posts some screenshots in a private Discord server doesn't mean they're shy, because sometimes screenshots just don't warrant being posted on a forum, as sometimes people may feel that they're not important or official enough. Take a look at DoomWorld and its vast supply of "potentially embarrassing editing questions", nobody cares if you have an "embarrassing" question. I highly doubt you ever seen any of the private Discord servers that you described, given you're not novice and the servers are private. I've had some thread ideas on the backburner that involve sharing underbaked maps that I'd normally be uncomfortable sharing out in public, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. It's on the agenda, so it's coming. I'd like mappers to use it for similar purposes. Why not just have a new forum that is only available for registered members? Where all yours and other's WIPs get posted, you don't have to take down the whole ship just for one small thing.

Forgive me for being rude but I have to ask this because I need to understand the level of intelligence I'm dealing with here.
Do you guys know what a question actually is? They are punctuated with question marks at the end of them. They are an amazing learning tool of the english language and save you from looking like a fucking idiot when you're filling your posts with declarative statements and commands based on information you obviously don't have.

See, I was happy to leave this at my last post. Then I saw this... Forgive me for being rude but I have to ask this because I need to understand the level of intelligence I'm dealing with here. I don't see why I should start forgiving you for being rude just now, when up to this point you've been obtuse and disingenuous to a fault. If you had demonstrated even basic reading comprehension earlier, you could've avoided a lot of this. As it is, you're clearly incapable of handling discussion, requiring a simple question format in order to have a straight answer coaxed out of you. Do you guys know what a question actually is? They are punctuated with question marks at the end of them. They are an amazing learning tool of the english language and save you from looking like a fucking idiot when you're filling your posts with declarative statements and commands based on information you obviously don't have. This here is a forum. As you're a fan of definitions, here's an easily found one: noun 1. a meeting or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged. "we hope these pages act as a forum for debate" Given your poor reading comprehension, I'm glad it was a short one. You may note that it's about an exchange of ideas and views. This very much includes declarative statements. So you can fuck right off with that condescension, admin or otherwise. If you want an open, loving community, as you so often say, you'll need to do a lot better at engaging with us than that. That includes backing off the passive-aggression in DBP release threads and giving a clear direction. Take back control or something, if you're determined to see things a certain way. Failing that, accept the change and embrace the success of your project. I'm willing to discuss the merits of this maturely, or we can keep up this sniping, arguing and bullshit.
