EMUS is an application composed of several utilities which can come in handy for your average TC developer. It's heavily aimed at EDGE source port modding but I'm sure many tools will be handy for other ports too. More info and download here: firstgen.no-ip.com/programs/EMUS.htmBreakdown of included tools: FRT: File Renamer Utility WET: Basic Wad Lump editing WMT: Wad Merging Tool LHW: Create a hybrid wad with both HiRes and LoRes images in it IDT: Images DDF Tool MST: MD2 model states to DDF RTS-IDE: for EDGE scripting DDF Off-Line: Reference EDGE docs To Do List: simply To Do list Screenshots:

A niche program in an already niche forum, maybe nothing should be happening.

Sorry, but too much shit happens in real life that I even gave up dooming. And to make it worse, a lot of people elected to work remotely or prefer text messaging and won't even pick a phone when called - I can't fucking stand it, I need eye-to-eye contact with people and I'm not getting it. This better be over soon.
So your posting here about no feedback is a bit pretentious. I don't even get that much from people I know, can't get to see people I know (because quarantine) and you want some strangers on a profile with only a handful of visitors to reply to your threads. It is fucking infuriating to even try to come with a polite reply. I was not thinking "fuck you", but when I try to write, I actually start thinking it.

This seems neat, especially the RTS GUI thing. I'd use it but sadly I gave up on anything more advanced than Boom. Actually recently I gave up on anything Doom, but that's beside the point. Also your offline documentation is for edge 1.29, which is something like 15 years old now, I think.
Anyway yeah both dudes who do stuff for EDGE are gonna love this.

Imagine I'm one of those fuckers and say what you'd like to say! Therapy. In my job it was kinda the opposite, I thought things would ease up because of the Covid lockdown, and instead of that I got even busier than normal(tech support) because I've got people who don't normally use the stuff now using the stuff, but since they're not the normal users they mess up.

Actually, I'm almost 100% sure there are at least 3 people who use EDGE The DDF offline documentation is old but still useful and relevant: just missing the newest stuff. RTS is up to date though, at least for 1.35 which was the last stable release(2011). 1.31 was 2008 so only really 3 years Seriously though, the first 4 tools should be useful for other ports I think.

Lobo For other ports there is SLADE which has all of the four features present and implemented in a more 'general' way. Maybe there are some features in EMUS which are not present in SLADE? Could the program save some time on doing routine tasks while being used instead of known tools, for example?

Well, the wad merging tool has a batch mode so you can give it like 5 wads at the same time and merge them into one. Not sure if slade can do that.
The wad editing tool is also the only wad lump editor that has md2 preview. And also allows lots of batch importing of say a load of png files that get converted to Doom palette automatically, respecting alpha transparency if they have it.
And does Slade really take a folder full of png or jpg and automatically create a wad which can be used in both low res "doomed" version and high res png/jpg originals in the same wad?
Most of the core functionality was done at a time when getting Wintex to work on modern Windows was damn near impossible, XWE was abandoned and Slade had yet to make an appearence. Languished on my hard drive for years:)
I'll put it this way: I haven't needed to use Slade for wad editing since my own tool covers all my needs.

which of these tools would be most useful for vanilla editing?
Actually if you'd like a FEATURE REQUEST renaming entries in the TEXTUREx lumps using slade is extremely fucking tedious (it has a mass-rename feature implemented but you can only use it on lumps for some reason, if you wanna edit texture names you gotta do that shit one at a time). If you made a TEXTUREx editor that features something like that I would use it.

I'm not sure I understand: I can batch rename texture entries in the Slade I have(3.1.11)

yeah that was a bit unclear, sorry. Try batch renaming while giving them unique names; possible with patch lumps, where the rename screen gives you options to use sequential numbering/alphabetization (if that's a word), but not in the texture entries.

After thinking about it for a bit, I think the best thing would be for Slade to add that since I think it would be a relatively easy thing to do since the code is basically all there for it. Rather than me doing a whole load of stuff from scratch. Cop out on my part 😉
I hit the dev up about it and he was receptive so I posted it on the Slade3 issue tracker at github.

New version released.
Changelog:
EMUS->WET Image Offset editor for sprites and graphics. -- Handles DDFIMAGE-defined graphics(png) as well as normal Doom. -- Allows loading a reference image in the background to make offsetting easier for things like weapon flash. -- PNG images will be displayed using the information from DDFIMAGE (e.g. Scaling, X and Y offsets).
EMUS->WET Automatic processing/handling of DDFIMAGE lump: -- Context menu options to add image to DDFIMAGE lump. -- Deleting/Renaming an image lump will automatically update DDFIMAGE. -- Any pngs used for sprites or gfx will have FIX_TRANS=BLACKEN added to the DDF entry automatically.
EMUS->WET contextual(right click) menu now disables options which don't make sense for the selected entry.
EMUS->WET: Vastly improved playback of SFX lumps (including OGG).
EMUS->WET: Allow duplicate names.
EMUS->DDF Offline: updated to 2.x compliance (Finally!)
EMUS->General bug fixes and GUI improvements

Lobo, I get no connection to your site immediately (blocked by provider?). Seems like I need to try it to open in a different session, because no luck switching on Tor and connecting to it, so it either picks that broken DNS (although it shouldn't), or maybe there are actually problems on your side... UPDATE: checked with downforeveryoneorjustme, the website firstgen.no-ip.com is down. DNS lookup (I'm using an encrypted dns, forgot what it is) actually works, which means there is a dns record for it, nothing more: firstgen.no-ip.com. 39 IN A 34.199.8.144 but the actual connection via http(s) cannot be made whether through clearnet or Tor, and the checker said it is not me, the site is fucking down.

I have a dynamic dns service(free) which does funky shit like putting frames around the real html. Some browsers hate that and/or think its something dodgy like phishing or whatever. Try this direct link: tcfirstgen.000webhostapp.com/programs/EMUS.htm

While simple at first glance, this is deceiving as this is a very capable and easy to understand editor with some really useful features that even the likes of Slade lack.
