At the end of each wad, the doom guy just steps into the next one. Every time he defeats hell he just gets sucked right back in. And hes punished by having to survive an infinitesimal amount of mazes and traps and be constantly chased and attacked by monsters. He never catches a break. Hes on a strict regimen of getting burned in the face by fireballs, and using useless field medical equipment like bandages and alcohol swabs to recover from the burns while daily firing tens of thousand of shotgun shells, and reloading that super shotgun over and over and over...
Day and night, dark or light, chasing exit switch after exit switch. Life never gets better. His face is expressionless at the mercy of the neverending demonic apocalypse ahead. Only a new weapon can make him smile. Theres nothing left to live for, and still he carries on.
Doom is hell, and the doom marine never actually gets out of it.

It's an honest living slaughtering infinite hordes of Hellspawn and a struggle but a satisfying one at that. Doom guy is never lost when there's a monster to shoot.. which there always will be.

Some of that Argent Hell energy would be nice for never having to feel the need to sleep.
