remember when I said that if you do 26% of a map per day you'll have a full megawad in 6 moths? Well, let's try putting this idea into practice you cunts. Inspired by the practices of extreme programming, I propose the following principles:
Simplicity: maps should be short and simple, and I mean Scythe short Pair Programming / Collective Code Ownership: maps should constantly be improved by other mappers. If you can't finish your map, publish it anyway so someone else can finish it Coding Standard: maps should have a more or less uniform level of quality. If you maps are too much detailed or complex, it should be polished until it fits with the rest of the maps Refactoring: maps should be constantly polished and improved
my idea is to have 5 thematic episodes of 5 to 7 maps:
episode 1: hell, pretty original huh
episode 2: techbases
episode 3: green grass and brown castles, inspired by plutonia and mordeth
episode 4: green marble and wood, inspired by thy flesh consumed
episode 5: egypt
what you guys think?

I'm interested. Tell us more about what port we're targeting, (Boom format would be nice, the DBPs are all limit removing so let's do something different), what's the completion date, will you make up a resource pack for us or can we do whatever, etc.
edit: EX TEE REEM

This sounds dandy and all, but what does making 26% of a map in one day for 6 months has to do with a community project? That's how much time it takes for one person, not a community. How are you going to make sure people make 26% of a map? You can't really see the 100% unless the map's already entirely finished, do you simply want people to make a single map in 4 days? Why can't there just be a simple deadline? Like in every other project. It's not extreme to make a 26% of a Scythe-sized map a day, seems like an average mapping schedule. It would also be a complete headache to keep track of multiple people every day to make sure they've finished making a quarter of a map.

I created a resource for the first episode and I'm finishing a demo map

this was just for example purposes. my point was that if you make 1/4th of a map per day you can have a full product in a short time, so we could try applying this principle to a community project. of course, if you can make 100%, 50% or x% of a map that's fine. the 1 day limit is also flexible, I think 4 or 5 days are enough, if you can't finish it, pass the map to someone else

How much is 26% of a map? I still have maps that aren't 100% complete that have been published.

you see 8 major rooms? 26% would be 2 rooms and adjacent corridors

What if I find an open space to add another hallway that leads into another section half the size of the rest of map? I'm just screwing with you however, I level design like I sketch; I can/will end up continuously adding new areas. I have a hard time making small maps. There's no way I'd be able to know whats 26%
