I really haven't seen many new Gothic DM WADs these days (unless I'm completely out of touch with the Doom community...)
I'd like to manage a new DoomerBoards project of a Gothic Revival. My goal is to make a Neo-Gothic DM wad with a mix of old & new looking textures, gameplay, etc... To make this possible, I need all the help I can get.
People wanted:
1) Mappers - Looking for experienced mappers from the DoomerBoards & DoomWorld communities. The skill-sets I'm looking for includes ability to make slopes, deep waters, scrolling skies, 3D bridges, and custom sector colors. Basically, if you're proficient in ZDoom (Doom in Hexen Format).
2) Sprite/Texture Editors - I'd like to use a mix of the old textures & sprites (from Gothic 1, 2, & Gothic 99), along with creating some fresh textures & sprites. My vision is to use a blend of medieval with futuristic tech themed. This will give it a "Neo-Gothic" taste which I feel unique and not a total rip off of the previous Gothic DM WADs.
3) MIDI Makers/Editors - If possible, I'd like to get new Gothic themed music. I'd rather not have to re-use the old stock of MIDIs from the previous Gothic WADs.
4) Play Testers - Looking for at least 2 -4 play testers. Play Testers are tasked with documenting their observations while playing through each map. They will play test using a variety of source ports compatible with Doom in Hexen Format specifically identifying any glitches. Play Testers will also state their opinions on each map in terms of design/detail, gameplay, and item/spawn placement.
5) Server Host - Need someone that can host a server on the following source ports: 1) Odamex, 2) Zandronum, & 3) ZDaemon. This will be used for play testing.
Map Requirements:
1) Maps should be 4 - 8 players.
2) You may use all weapons (please DON'T place BFGs in easy locations that create a cluster fuck of spamming).
3) Avoid making maps with easy camping locations.
4) Must use slopes, deep water, and custom sector colors. (Try to be subtle with the use of these features. Don't make the maps look hideous with randomly placed slopes.)
5) Maps should be at least medium sized, which is enough to accommodate a maximum of 8 players. Gameplay should be fast paced.
6) Avoid placing objects, such as flaming barrels/trees/stalagmite in places that restrict player movement.
These map requirements are basic and straightforward. Any suggestions to the list are welcome for discussion.
Due Date:
Because I don't dedicate as much time as I used to for Doom projects, I'm setting a due date by the end of December 2020. This may be subject to change if we complete this project faster than expected. I know the DoomerBoards folks can pump out maps like fucking hot cakes, so it's possible that this project will be completed in time for public release before the end of 2020.
I've created 1 map back in 2016 that I plan on using: www.mediafire.com/file/fgrgqk927wka52w/Deathmatch_Duel.wad/file Basically, it contains a texture pack from Gothic 1 (actually, if I recall this texture pack was borrowed from an old Doom project back in 2015 that I was briefly a part of, but it extracts much of the textures from Gothic).
I look forward to working with you guys!
