Yeah, but Peterson was hamstrung by getting stuck finishing Tom "Pubes in the Soapdish" Hall's alpha levels during Doom's development.

I agree with the the Quake but not the Doom. Most of Sandy's levels are really memorable even if they're ugly.

When it works, it's great (E3M4, E3M5 and E3M7), but when it doesn't, it's just ugly weirdness (E2M5, E2M9 and most of Doom 2 material, except maybe Monster Condo)

I fucking love Sandy's Doom2 maps, not quite as good as Romero's Doom2 maps on average but still way more fun than the majority of Doom 1. I mean I still love Doom, the same way I still love Wolf 3D, but all I can think of with Doom 1 is using a single barrel shotgun on a lone baron in a hallway. Doom2 was so much more wide open and challenging. I admit that E1 looks better than most of Doom2 but by the same token Doom2 looks arguably better than the other 3 episodes which have some balls-out ugly levels.

Because he was one of the coolest dudes at id Also really we shouldn't be so harsh on the guy considering how he make 2/3rds of Doom from Tom Halls scraps and his own ideas in so little time. (Also since Quake is more lovecraftian he must have had more fun making those maps)
