It's the most immersive, atmospheric and visually interesting WAD of this decade. I can forgive the grinding of later levels and the occasional repetitive gameplay, because everything else is great. I love it

Later levels? It’s a grind throughout the whole wad. It is Sloggy McGrindslog the wad. Also where are my manners? Welcome to the Boards! Interesting name you have there, did you know that Thunderbox is outback Aussie slang for a bush toilet? What do you think a thundercunt equates to given that knowledge?

I was thinking of Hellcore, confuse it with Hell-whatever WADs, which also has some atmospheric maps but a lot of bad stuff. I don't remember if I played this Hellbound wad, I should give it a try.

I don't think anyone's heard from Z86 in a long time. I've never seen him make maps before Hellbound. He just kinda appeared to make Hellbound and then vanished when it was done.
Hellbound is pretty awesome. It seems like it borrows a lot of themes from sci-fi military shooters of the mid 2000s, without being too dissimilar to Doom. The monster count is a little heavy handed, without many breaks which can feel like a drag to plow through. But I haven't played many maps that awed me quite like Venom Canyon. Hellbound has a lot of monstrous sprawling maps with impressive visuals, so if you can deal with crushing though lots of monsters, there's definitely some impressive sights to behold that makes it worth it.

basically the best vanilla visuals with the worst possible combat to go with them (ideal combat in my personal scale would be the typical scythe/plutonia like but not slaughtershit), all in all wouldn't replay

There is still hope for a surprise 30 years anniversary release
