As you may have noticed, the site looks significantly different from before. We have been in discussion for a while about expanding our scope of content, on these boards. No longer will we be solely about Doom. Nevertheless, we will maintain a sub-board exclusively to Doom. We would like to cover all video games in general, and promote discussion on a wider range of topics. If a particular game gets enough attention, than we could possibly give it a dedicated sub-board. If you would like to make a request or a suggestion about the site and its content, post it here. The moderators and I will privately deliberate on your petitions.

Maybe tone down the shitty animated gifs. Restore the old logo but maybe with the 'game soup' graphic in the background instead of the doom2 title screen. Would make the place cleaner looking and less..1996-internet bad.

A bit too... broad thematic for a forum with barely 50 users, IMO. Not to mention that it's called... you know... _Doomer_ Boards. But hey, i'm not saying that it sucks. It might turn out to be quite awesome.

I definitely would not think too hard about it. Don't go too crazy with the categorization. The mobile version of this site is retarded (my first post here was already in the wrong sub forum, for example) Doomworld is the only thing I really have in common with the people in this place. If it were up to me there would be two subforums -- Doom, and not Doom. Keep things as simple as you can and go light with the moderation at least until this alternative-alternative community gets some traction.
Definitely 100% agree with Justince, all animating bullshit needs to go. Keep a nice sleek professional UI so this place doesn't look like a kids playground.
I can assist you with graphics if you think you'll need it.

Now that I think of it, it's probably best to to just do away with gif icons. It's a little too much. Just keep the boards looking simple. Nothing too obnoxious or flashy.

The new gifs and banner seem out of place. The site is missing a clear identity. When I come here now it doesn't really look like much of anything besides a bunch of old game references slapped together. There is no title. Though I can appreciate the ambitious design you guys are going for. It could work, but at the moment it's just a little strange looking.
If nothing else, get rid of the damn gifs.

Personally I'd have gone with "Classic Shooter Boards" or "Classic FPS Boards" - a forum for discussing any and all retro FPS games. Some sections created specifically for Doom, Heretic, Hexen. And the rest lumped together under a broader category (Duke Nukem, Quake, Blood, Rise of the Triad, etc). Popular ones could be separated from the others into their own specifically named category like Doom if they gain enough attention. On top of that there could be a place for discussing anything non-game related (like there is now) with creative works and blogs included within that.
But I don't mean to try and tell anyone how to run the place. It's entirely up to you guys what direction you want to take the site in. I'm cool with whatever you decide to do. I know by having an extremely broad category of "PC and console games" you are essentially allowing people to talk about anything. Which includes retro FPS shooters. So in that sense it's a win-win. That's all fine and good, but do you really think there's interest in this site for Mario, Sonic, Metroid etc alongside Doom? I dunno man, I dunno...
At least the first person shooter genre is all linked together in a coherently themed fashion that happens to conventionally include Doom and games related to Doom. In terms of gameplay, modding, engine, etc.

If gamer nerds is the way that the mods want to go, I'm down with that. That said, I think restricting the ethos to pure FPS would be a mistake.
A giant, Everything Else forum fine. It opens things up. A single, obsessive compulsion with a single game is also fine; it never hurt Quakeworld, DW, evolution to fill a specific niche etc. But restricting it to FPS only strikes me as a half-in, half out mentality that seldom seems to work for me.

^ Yeah fair enough, I can agree with that. This current layout is probably better in the long run.
Edit: I like the new flashing banner. I'd say that's an improvement over the old one.

I liked the original Doomer.boards banner to be honest, if you make a website too broad and too diluted you risk losing the hook that drew people to it in the first place.

I want to create multiple banners over time and have them all in a slideshow rotation.

I can assist you with graphics if you think you'll need it. I was thinking of creating a sticky thread, where people can post artwork. If anything, it could be a good resource for contributions. Nevertheless, I'm open to suggestions, in terms of what's visually pleasing. I think the hogan sprite is an improvement over the Johnny cage gif. I want to create additional banners when I get back from work. I will also be adding more sprites later. If anything if people want to submit random game sprites, I will pick some to use. I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish. Wasn't the objective of this forum to have an alternative place to talk about politics and current events without the intervention of doomworld moderation?
I like doomer.boards.net better than dumbworld but i don't think you'll find a name better than that. I understand you want this to be a forum about all games but what's stopping you or anyone from talking about all games anyway? You don't have to change the whole format of everything and decorate the whole thing in random video game sprites. People will talk about what they want to talk about whether you shape the forum around it or not. If anything you're more likely to drive people away.
The idea of this forum filling up with random gamer nerds who dont care about Doom is kinda repulsive to me and would make me sorry i registered here. Just let it be.

^What 40oz said. I"m afraid of this place becoming irrelevant once members Doomworld frustrations subside, but I don't think generalizing the forums will extend our longevity. One thing I never cared for was that we kept our political and critical conversations regarding Doomworld in private. I wanted Ling and co. to know the opposite side of the coin. Sadly, Doomworld isn't a big enough community to jade enough people with it's hard left-leaning rhetoric like Something Awful to justify a counter culture such as Something Sensitive.
Also, I'd like this place to be Doom or at least id game centric. That's why I stayed at Doomworld for so long despite the hostilities towards the end.

Uh, I think 90% of new members will be 12 year old speds freshly banned from DW. I'm not sure how that is preferable to 12 year old speds banned from elsewhere.
I mean, a sped's a sped regardless of provenance, right?
