The game came out in 1993, and its still going strong because of mods. Do you see yourself playing this game, and its mods when you are much older?

Hell yeah. The speed and simplicity of Doom is what makes it timeless. GZDoom really sealed the deal and made the game immortal in my opinion. Cleaned up all the dated aspects of the engine and created a slick, easily modifiable fast paced FPS playable on almost anything. The hell themes have appealed to me throughout the years. As a sadistic child, a teen metalhead, and a grouchy adult. Oh yes. Forever my favorite game. I like new releases too though. I was a big fan of Call of Duty multiplayer (blasphemy, I know) up until about 2012 when the series started to shit on itself in favor of futuristic shenanigans. Meh.
I like Doom because while yes, it has futuristic elements, the core gameplay is still a boots on the ground military shooter. Albeit with the ability to run at 100 mph. Which is awesome really. You don't get that in modern shooters anymore.
Edit: Hospital gaming as a wrinkly old geezer, circa 2056. Featuring RUSH and friends, still unable to let go of the past. Enjoying Doom on the iPad 26, with neural integration capabilities (not available if you have dementia).

yes, I'v a hard time thinking of a way to make maps as quickly and easily, then just go play them with friends and family. I imagine if someone made a quake 1 like game that you could just throw together maps like in doom, with many preset variables to change up the game play I'd play doom less, but I'll never just drop it.

Well that's a bit of a far-fetched question, really. Most of the folks in the community are between 12 (like Inferno lol) and 40, which means that, assuming they stay faithful to Doom for the rest of their lives, they will keep on Dooming for 40 to 70 (SEVENTY) years. That's a bit too much. Doom will be a GODDAMN CENTURY OLD (if the 82-year old Inferno still can't get enough of D_RUNNIN)!!! That's like driving a Ford T nowadays! Well, you got my point.
As for myself, I'm definitely staying here for a few years at least, there is so much new content released every day, so many interesring people, so many maps I'd like to create!

I'm already seriously bored of the game because I feel like I've experienced most of what it has to offer countless times. Almost all mapping ideas seem very very old to me. And I imagine it's gonna only get worse. But I'm sure I'll keep occasionally checking what the community is up to simply out of habit and some basic curiosity. There are some fun things going on at times.

I don't play Doom for single player anymore. I occasionally like to play FFA, Duel, Co-op, and CTF with friends online via Zandronum, ZDaemon and Odamex. I used to be more active in the Multiplayer community (meaning I literally played online every night), but work has been getting in the way of that. So now it's like maybe a couple times a month I play Doom with my friends at #dmstuff Quakenet IRC. So I guess I will be playing it for the rest of my life, but not often.

A better question is this: Why would you give up your hobby?

Probably not but I'm sure it will be the last video game I ever play. Mental and physical health permitting I'll probably play it for a very long time.
It's pretty remarkable the rate at which maps are still being made. There are a ton of cacoward contenders this year. Some of my stuff has been nominated but I don't think it will even be a runner up. The sheer volume of great content leaves me with too much to do and too little time. I suppose great readers in history had that concern when the printing press was invented and the book-making process was streamlined.
