Finished it today. Haven't even started the anime. Let's go.
SUMMARY:
"Pop Team Epic" is that popular meme manga/anime from last year (or was it this year?) that features two main characters: 14-year-old girls aptly named Popoku and Pipimi. The manga is a 4-Koma one, meaning, "four panel comedy", which, unlike many webcomics who try to be funny in strictly four panels and just aren't (Fucking "Ctrl+Alt+Delete" comics, if your comic makes me feel like a great artist, you screwed up), Pop Team Epic pulls it off using quick and surreal humor, many of which caused quite a lot of chuckles to the poor young me, and, if not chuckle-worthy, definitely shitposting material, which, to be honest, feels like. The authors are pretty conscious about that and don't sustain themselves from the copy+paste formula when they can afford one. The series don't follow a specific plot or a storyline, heck, even if the two wear school uniforms, they don't do much about the whole school thing, and once they do, they really don't have any "nice" words about it (they swear a lot).
PROS:
- Humorous as heck. Something even you non-weeaboos would like.
- The art style is simple to pull off, and very iconic, easy to recognize when seen.
CONS:
- Some panels are pure shitposts, if you are looking for a story, go read another manga, preferably some I reviewed.
- Besides the occasional copy+paste, nothing else really.
CONCLUSION:
This was yet another short but sweet manga. Heck, I started it and finished in less than half of a day. I have yet to see the anime though, I cannot really tell how it pulls off in the animated format. I don't have much to say that would work for or against it's favor. It's just a shitposting manga. That doesn't make it bad though, it was good.
9.2/10 Sweet, short, chuckle-causing.
(Personal note: I should stop being so goshdarn subjective and be more objective in the future.)
