HECATOMB

Hecatomb. The meaning of that word could be interpreted as "a great sacrifice" and was supposed to be the third game in the Heretic/Hexen series, but it was not to be. Heretic II and Hexen II were made instead. But I say that it is the user-created content that is the true sequel. The true Hecatomb!

DooM may be more popular, but Heretic and Hexen are also great games. It can unfortunately be difficult to find good PWADs (Player-created WADs) for these. Or any WADs at all, for that matter. So I think we should do something about that. Why not let Doomer Boards become *the* place for Heretic & Hexen content? Especially since there seem to be no other place active and discerning enough currently. A clear list of WADs with proper, functioning links goes some way to such a goal. I can't do this on my own, since my knowledge is limited. So you need to help out!

If you know of a good WAD, make a post about it here and I will update the master list. Maybe we can even get this topic pinned for convenience!


The following rules apply:

-HERETIC & HEXEN content only. That means maps and modifications, whatever the format.

-FINISHED content only. There's too much stuff out there that goes on and on without ever being 100% playable. It would fit poorly on a list such as this. Content which is done but continually expanded with new features (such as some gameplay mods) is allowed.

-GOOD content only. No low-effort myhut.wad crap, trap WADs or similar rubbish allowed. What is good is up to you (and us, collectively), however. If you had fun playing it, and think that other might too, post it!

-INFORMATION about the content should always be included in your post. Where can we get it? What does it run on? Anything else of note? Please be brief, as I will only list basic stuff next to the name and the link of the WAD.

Is Not Jabba a relative of yours not catpho? There seems to be many nots these days.

I have two Heretic E1 maps that I converted to Doom 2 by hand back in the 90s. One of them is The Docks, Heretic E1M1 and the other is The Guard Tower, Heretic E1M4. The Guard Tower is a wickedly awesome designed map. I can dig them out if anyone is interested. From memory they play similar to KDitD style.

Thanks everyone! After (almost) working around the clock for a week, I finally have some time to spare. I added the maps to the list, but avoided the Iron Forge for now. There's also the Wayfarer, which looks promising too, but I think it's better to let them be finished first.

@glenzinho While those won't fit this topic, I'd love to give them a try! The concept sounds really fun!
