Yay, new repetitive shit from Ribbiks. This guy has been pumping out the same map over and over again since Swim With The Whales and people praise him for it.
Yeah it was too much.

I agree lol. I do like some of his gimmick stuff though because I'm always a fan of gimmicks. Also there's a map in there that seems like it should be in the 150 Hell knights in a square room WAD... heh

Poor Ribbiks come on @anonimvio, being a little edgy is fine but this is a bit too much... I must say that I started to find his style uninteresting after playing some of his wads. I think that getting stale is a thing that happens to almost every mapper, to a certain extent. At least those who made lots of maps, perhaps in this particular case the problem is bigger because Ribbiks has a style that is rather limited regarding the gameplay and the visuals. At least these screenshots don't look boring like the Swim With The Whales/Stardate copycats, that bed is something I wouldn't expect to see in his wads but I'm pretty sure I won't play this. Now I'm totally sure I won't play this.

You can blame me if the screenshots are lame In regards to his maps, i find them to be a consistent and fun style. Sure, being more flexible and branching out to more stuff is cool, but he is doing what he loves and his influence and appeal are undeniable. Havent actually played Toad yet, just putting out my general opinion on Ribbks's maps. (And yes, frog.wad is cool)

I like the way these maps look, but I think it's silly to hold this to his best work. I'm happy he's getting his mapping practice in. Personally I found working on less ambitious projects once in a while helps to build inspiration for bigger projects later on. I was hoping Toad was his cyan project he posted screenshots of a while ago, but if he's making this little thing in between, then it just means that Magnolia is going to be better in the long run.
In any case, I'll give this a run, and it will probably kill me bad! But even when his deathtraps are pure suffering for me, sometimes it gives me ideas for how I can make a similar situation easier in my own maps.

huh neat. I actually haven't played Frog yet though. but from the looks of it, Toad has perfect, short map-lengths for this type of "bullshit challenge map" style of gameplay (i only looked at the first few maps). Small enough to churn through hopefully. Yah, I'll definitely play this. also, MegaPancakeStrategist , have you ever played nefertiti.wad by Ribbiks? some of the maps are still kinda hard in a tight, technical ribbiks-y kinda way but they are colorful and a bit more quirky.

Meh, it's unnecessary to insult him personally.. but yeah, that gameplay style isn't for me, I like all my games (from action, fps, platformers down to JRPGs and strategy games) to be less.. assholish? haha
I remember loving his outdoor areas but then like 70% of the setpieces killed me the first time and whenever a setpiece would unfold I'd freeze in terror like a deer about to get hit by a car, haha.. and there were a lot of setpieces that seemed to be geared at flushing out the player with the survivalist playstyle. If people enjoy that then cool, though.. it does make for fun demos.

I took a look at that nefertiti WAD and I only liked maps 1 and 5. Those were fun and I wasn't being assaulted and demoralized by 100 barons. Had to use noclip in map05 though since I couldn't figure out how to get the red key

Hm. The maps sure look good, and the music is nice too, but to me, maps such as these are absolute shit.

I can't stop loving Ribbiks maps. But yeah, his style is pretty fixed at this point. Perhaps it's bound to happen when you churn out hundreds of maps. I'd argue there's also a definite Erik Alm style as well, for example.

Toad, Frog, or Nefertiti looks like fast drawings on a sketchbook... Some little researchs, with some deletions and annotations. It's interesting because, he can take some experimental ideas for other serious projects like maybe Magnolia. I consider Swift Death for example like a big sketchbook, with some rubber blows.
