You were probably really young when you saw it and it's an okay B-Movie action flick, nothing too bad. I think all the hate was from how much more accurate it could have been to the source material, it's not like it was unwatchable. Doom and Resident Evil currently hold a place as the only two video-games based movies that I don't find to be completely unwatchable dogshit, so that's not that bad. As a film nerd, I took umbrage with all aspects of filmmaking; the lack of dynamics/contrast in the often poor lighting, a lackluster and ineffective soundtrack, underdeveloped characters that felt more like cartoonish procedural archetypes than actual humans, a severe issue with pacing that completely failed to build tension or balance acton and non-action scenes, almost no actual gunfights, mostly forgettable sets, costumes, props and monsters...it was like one missed opportunity after another. |

I have scoured the realms of Google and haven't found any article that confirms Doom Slayer will be a woman or anything. Just don't mention it on DW, if you don't want identity politics in your Doom movie you'll be maligned as a woman-trans-black hating oppressor, and the entire anime-army will pull their heads out of their asses just to make sure you don't forget it. |

Actually, in a surprising twist of events, the majority of the anime army agreed with me when I said there is literally no reason to panic and that there is no official article saying there would be a Doomgal, and that a female protagonist doesn't automatically mean "Doomgal". Heck, dew even said I had a point and didn't even lowkey insulted me about it either. Those who did go the " It will be a Doomgal and a black trans lgbt-esque statute bc pc culture and SJW rocket launchers firing harassment threats---" route ended up with the most of the flak. I Those who are still not banned from Doomworld here can testify. And for a good reason though: we don't even have a trailer yet. I did, however, bounced back into the shadows almost immediately after, the "anime army" is disemboweling all of those anti-Doomgal comments (not banning or kicking or anything, just good ole argumentation), and I don't want to be caught in the crossfire. |

At this point I rather believe that she wouldn't play as the Doomguy/Doom Marine/Doom Slayer because it doesn't say anywhere that she will play as the Doomgal, just that she is a lead character. That can mean a lot of things, and a movie can have multiple lead characters. There. No reason to start chucking insults and swearing this world into oblivion, at least not yet. It's still DEFCON 5 everyone. Chill.(im glad I got this out b4 anyone else dropped in on this) I was thinking the same thing. Jack Nicholsom was cast as the star of Batman...but he was the Joker, not the caped crusader. |

I'm loving how an_mutt actually said 'You are half-way to a correct opinion here' in response to a measured and relatively low-key post from Impie, one of the most friendly and easy going people on that shithole board. That really sums up everything you need to know about an_mutt perfectly, not surprising it would come out of his own stupid face. Of course on the next page he has to backpedal and pathetically attempt to apply some screwball logic to an obvious knee-jerk emotional driven attack on another forum member.
I did get a laugh out of his mention of renaissance 'fan-fiction' with greek/roman overtones. Hey here's a good one; did anyone mention BBC had done a remake of Troy with a black guy playing Achilles? I'm totally sure it was done by a committee of whities wanting free advertising from other angry whities on the internet and the black man's love of ancient greek history naturally. Absolutely not some transparent, forced diversity quota to avoid really a negative, Twitter-lead rampage of #GREECE_SO_WHITE...No, BBC would never do anything like that! Awfully big gamble if you ask me, better hope all these obviously racist Homer fans raise enough of a stink for this show to be profitable! They could never really want artistic integrity! Well what are you waiting for whitey? Go complain and get us some free publicity! Wait, what's that? The show TANKED? You know, if everyone keeps bitching about a possible Doomgirl in this film, it is going to get the feminazis riled up to the point where we then have an "us vs. them" scenario, and for the sake of saving themselves from being labeled "misogynists" will likely make Doomguy a chick just to prevent a fucking autisticatastrophe complete with hashtags and protests.
Just sit back and wait till the movie comes out. If it's good, then awesome. If it sucks, don't watch it again.

Props for withdrawing from all the politics associated with it and addressing the actual problem of deviating too far from the source material. The problem with your response is that it's so fucking rational that it's too challenging to spin it into the "UH WHY CANT WOMEN BE IN MOVIES???" argument that they want to have all the time, so they pick on all the easy targets. Your post is the TimeOfDeath map of posting. It's so hard to attack that people pretend it doesn't even exist. I keep running into this problem all the time, I don't know why I make myself deal with it. |
