Yep, the rumors are true! "13 years after Dwayne Johnson starred in Doom, a new movie based on id Software's famous first-person shooter is in the works.
But unlike The Rock's Doom, this new Doom probably won't come out in the cinema. Instead, it'll likely head straight to online, possibly even as a Netflix Original."Source: t.co/GMhorVdQdA

Well since it's likely heading straight to Netflix or another similar service my hopes are sort of higher than when I initially heard the news.
Still, I'm cautious since the first one was so, so bad and game-to-movie adaptions are notoriously terrible, but maybe they'll make something great this time around. Guess we'll have to see where it's heading for ourselves.

I'd totally go to see it in the cinema, assuming there is lots of fun to be had

I wrote a theme for it. 0.000000001% chance that it would ever be noticed by anyone related to the studio...but I'ma still release it.

So, will it be good or will it be bad? What do you all think?
I have a strong suspicion that it will be shit.

I have a strong suspicion that it will be shit. Same, especially if they end up using "Doom Slayer" instead of Doomguy.

I legit liked the 2005 one and am fairly skeptical about whether this one will be able to reach that level of quality

Doom Slayer is the new protagonist who looks like a scrapped Halo Master Chief.

After pretty thorough examination of the storylines of all the Dooms I'm pretty sure Doom Slayer IS the Doomguy. This and the Duke Nukem movie should both be trying to go for campy humor and over the top gore, something simple and fun a la Kung Fury but I'm 90% sure the people making them are too retarded to realize that and are instead shooting for another "super serious" tone that totally falls flat and sucks I legit liked the 2005 one and am fairly skeptical about whether this one will be able to reach that level of quality Fight me You were probably really young when you saw it and it's an okay B-Movie action flick, nothing too bad. I think all the hate was from how much more accurate it could have been to the source material, it's not like it was unwatchable. Doom and Resident Evil currently hold a place as the only two video-games based movies that I don't find to be completely unwatchable dogshit, so that's not that bad.

I think all the hate was from how much more accurate it could have been to the source material... It was the feeling that they were doing all of it to play "safe" that really bothered me.. back when the game was released it was anything but "safe", there were so many things the movie could have toned up without any effort. Making it some movie about a serum or something, rofl, they underestimated the fact that almost everyone that watched it went in to see hell breaking through a portal on Mars and a marine that didn't need special serum to be a badass.. when someone needs drugs to be able to kill a few zombies and take on The Rock it'll never be as special as a dismissed soldier who was doing maintenance while his friends got killed and goes into a blood thirsty rage as a result, haha. I've got the feeling they'll get the "hell" part right... but then mess up on the edge and tone. You missed Mortal Kombat, btw.. that movie was glorious and has aged in a way that made it still glorious but for different reasons. ;P

You were probably really young when you saw it I saw it a year ago on TV. :] And also, yeah I'll agree that as a Doom movie it does kinda suck. However 1) as a stand-alone movie it's not really any worse than your generic sci-fi alien invasion movie 2) it doesn't even suck THAT much as a Doom movie 3) it has the very humorous idea of an extra chromosome having a Berserk effect 4) there's Dwayne Johnson.

I actually agree with both what you said and what Deathevo said, I feel like the original wasn't that bad as a sci-fi action flick and that with a bit more 'edge' in addition to a proper Hell-based storyline, it could have been quite good. I think more humor would be necessary too, while it had some level of seriousness, Doom had several tongue in cheek aspects at it's core and I'd like to see that overall tone reflected in a new movie.

Excusing something off the basis that it was a product of the garbage of the time isn't really an excuse, it just means that it was weak as hell cash in and makes me hate it more. They could have atleast had one scene like this, haha. ... but I guess in the 2000's everyone was getting too sophisticated for mindless bloodbaths, "clever" plot twists became the new bloodbaths or something. Even the Hell Raiser that was released at that time had a pretentious plot twist that made my hangover worse when I watched it, I'm so happy that era is over.

I know I am supposed to bash the new movie bc it's a new circle-jerking trend, but I can't, because I am legit excited and happy for these news. I believe I am going to love the movie no matter how shitty it would turn out. And I feel like this line alone has me singled out and ready to be fired at by meaningless insults and two three "Who cares, your taste sucks anyways, lawl". Either way, onto the serious stuff: There is a way they can make the new Doom movie good. Actually, more than one ways they can make it good. The franchise doesn't have much of a plot, but the newest game offers a lot of lore to fuck around with: a movie that can probably fit in the events before Doomslayer wakes up and Doomslayer's rampage (either out-game and in-game, doesn't matter) is probably going to be more than enough. There is the whole deal with Night Sentinels, the deal with Olivia, Hayden... maybe they can fit in Betruger somewhere? Now, rationing the amount of combat and story is going to be a challenge to the movie guys. They need enough blitz, bling, booms, and blood to appeal to the fans (who are NEVER going to be satisfied), but they need enough things going on so it doesn't seem stupid. Im wondering what does Mick Gordon say on all of this; maybe some world-class djent (I am probably overestimating this, I don't listen to djent in the first place) could work wonders. I know you are all probably wondering how "Doom" out of all games can form a sensible story. Isn't the newest game just rip 'n' tear and no talk? Well, at the surface it is, but those who spend a minute or two reading the background stuff and closely watching the cutscenes or whatever could gather a story worthy of a movie. This might be me being just optimistic, but something else tells me ther is a good chance it will all turn out fine and dandy. Either way, holding up my thumbs, am going to check the news about it probably every week or two from now on. Seems like a trend worth following for me, now that Ready Player One is out.

They could have atleast had one scene like this, haha. Hahahaha parallel thinking! lol that's the exact scene that comes to mind when I think of the goriest scene from a movie. I remember when I watched Dead Alive for the first time, i had no idea it was going to be that ridiculous.

Amy Manson will be playing the Doomguy...? inb4 "eww diversity s.j.w rocket launchers firing lgbt alphabet letters bc money wants focking Doomgal" Same shit seen on some Doom FB group by me. At this point I rather believe that she wouldn't play as the Doomguy/Doom Marine/Doom Slayer because it doesn't say anywhere that she will play as the Doomgal, just that she is a lead character. That can mean a lot of things, and a movie can have multiple lead characters. There. No reason to start chucking insults and swearing this world into oblivion, at least not yet. It's still DEFCON 5 everyone. Chill.(im glad I got this out b4 anyone else dropped in on this)

That's a good point, Korbi,
This movie could entirely be about the Doom universe and the UAC's relationship to it, rather than a first person story seen through the eyes of the nameless guy you play as in the game. I could see that working well, if they are willing to tell the story from an alternate perspective.

The fact that there mere possibility of the Doomslayer being female speaks a lot to how much umbrage some males take with a gender role-reversal. At the same time, there's an understandable "What's the point in altering the original character design so drastically?" argument. If the next Batman movie featured a Chinese midget, the objection would be largely about an arbitrary and unnecessary change in character. That sort of thing needs proper motivation.

If the comments in that article are to believed then both the director and writer are women as well, suddenly I'm interested in seeing how this turns out! Amy Manson will be playing the Doomguy...? inb4 "eww diversity s.j.w rocket launchers firing lgbt alphabet letters bc money wants focking Doomgal" Well it IS happening at a time when Rule63 is being applied across the board with regards to Marvel characters and said comics magically becoming socially conscious and when Liberals are starting to yell at Japanese to make their anime more "inclusive" as well.. along with the latest Ghostbusters.. can you really blame them? The atmosphere where people knee jerk and fire prematurely was created through personal experience.. even if I don't agree with writing a movie off as an insincere effort when there's not even a trailer to go by, I can see and understand why people do it.

New info (on my tablet rn and it isn't the best piece of tech to write upon): Tony Giglio us the director for this one. Apparently, he isn't that good, but it's the best to hope he learned from his previous movies. Only confirmed actors in so far: Nina Bergman, Amy Manson. The movie will start shooting in Bulgaria at the late part of the year. It is implied they will try and reboot Doom 2016, just like how last time Universal did it, they did it with Doom 3. --- That being said a lot of toxicity has suddenly risen and everybody thinks it will be a flop, while having no solid proof other than "well its a trend". And just because it's a trend, we gotta fucking fire off our entire politically incorrect arsenal of words at it?! The trailer hasn't even been out yet! A lot can change in the mean time! My say on the whole thing is to hold yer horses and wait for the trailers to start coming out. Who knows, maybe the director will see all this negative output as a challenge to make a politically correct movie that is still fun (and we know how those turned out). I fucking want to yell "SHUT YOUR STUPID FACE" into everyone's ears, everyone being those who are already pulling out "lawl democrates heh pc culture fuck you reeeee" cards and who are screaming like revenants just because of a "hunch". I want to send a email to Tony himself just so everyone can calm their nerves, and chances are I will probably send one, at least asking to either a) confirm the "hunch" everyone's having or b) ask to listen to our inputs and/or ideas. Chances are he would reject my mail, but hey, better to act and fail than to debate and sit around like chicken. Anyways, some sorse for the information above: www.dreadcentral.com/news/272155/theres-new-information-about-universals-doom-reboot/www.eurogamer.net/articles/2018-04-23-a-new-doom-movie-is-in-the-worksI have scoured the realms of Google and haven't found any article that confirms Doom Slayer will be a woman or anything. So yeah, this managed to capture my interest, heh.

Guys, guys, listen up.... I want the movie to be Doomguy as macho dude with big guns petting his pet rabbit and getting in trouble during that riot like the Doom 1 manual. He gets sent to the UAC (maybe hires a caretaker for Daisy) and is stationed there and learns more of the crazy demon cult stuff going on there for a while being skeptical and curious before all Hell breaks loose and then he has to kill everything with only his mobile Daisy bunny PDA stream keeping his sanity in check, enough to have a few existential rants. After he blows up the Hell portal he finds out that Earth was invaded by demons using the spaceships and that his pet rabbit Daisy was murdered by the demons. This makes Doomguy go on a demon slaughter rampage until he meets up with Doomgirl and after calming down they find a teleporter back to Earth and have to save Earth in ways similar to that of the Doom novels, like that part that a lot of people know where they gather inside of a Mormon church to fight the demons with those survivors. Covering themselves in lemon juice to sneak past the hordes of zombie troopers to the Hell portal teleporter at the UAC headquarters. They go off into Hell and wreck stuff up, spouting lines from the Doom Comic. In the end they both punch Satan/Baphoment/The Icon of Sin in the face like a million times before blowing up the evil brains with rocket launchers. They share a tender moment and kiss amongst the exploding Icon of Sin and the death throes it emits before teleporting out. Epilogue is basically the ending messages of Doom 2 and Doomguy and Doomgirl go into the pet store together to find a new pet bunny rabbit after burying Daisy o>. Fin.
