Somebody carefully hint to him that these silly weapon sprites should be put in a separate optional wad...

That's a good idea yo and should be standard for such mapsets, if weapon behaviours are not radically altered of course.

Somebody carefully hint to him that these silly weapon sprites should be put in a separate optional wad... I was going to volunteer myself to make a weapons patch wad that puts the IWAD sprites over top of the new ones but I don't think that's a legal thing to do. The only real way to do it is to modify Stuggle's wad file after its released. What's the protocol exactly? Is that ethically/morally off-limits to modify someone's wad to your own liking? If it's a sprite replacement only, it should still function normally for demo recording/playback.

There's nothing wrong with making personal versions of wads, and you can't prevent the players to do that. Maybe the only problem will arise if you start to distribute your personal versions, it could lead to some confusion. I like the new sprites here, they are silly yes but they also add a unique touch to the wad and are part of the vision of the author. It's like if you don't like the custom sounds of ALT and you remove them, if you play ALT with the stock sounds you aren't properly playing ALT. Anyway in this wad the weapons are also altered with dehacked, the stock weapons with the new behaviours will look more silly. That's a good idea yo and should be standard for such mapsets No.

Why not, it was good enough for Skillsaw to put out Valiant lite. What I said in the few words you left off from my quote was pretty much what you said at the end of your post, “no boy,” but I said it first

If the mapper wants to make that courtesy good for him and the interested people, it shouldn't be a standard though.

I guess that was me showing my preferences, thank you for an actual response instead of that dismissive no. Mappers are gonna do what they gonna do, and people like myself and memfis are going to complain about weapon sprite changes. antares has changed the behaviours to a thing of their own that deleting the sprite patches would make it weird while playing. It is what it is, but it personally won’t stop me giving something new a try. I played the original episode when it was fresh and from what I remember the double pistols were fun to use, it’s just a shame he has to use those terrible looking ROTT sprites. Even then regular Doom pistol doubled up would look better to me. I remember the crucifix weapon looking pretty bad arse though. That episode was a lot of fun at the time, except the final map that fucken sucked hard and I gave up on it. The visual style interests me so I will check out what else Struggle has to offer when I get the chance.
