 As you know, Hell Knights and Barons of Hell are nigh identical except that the Hell Knight has it's HP halved, a paler skin color, brown hooves and horns, and elephant/jaguar soundfx. Suppose the Hell Knight got a little more attention than a quick pallete swap. If the Hell knight could get it's own new sprite replacements, either franken-edited from other monster sprites like Chaingunner and Pain Elemental did, or given entirely original sprites like the revenant, Mancubus, or Archvile, what might the Hell Knight have looked like? Perhaps a more decrepit or zombified version of the Baron of Hell? Maybe it would be a little shorter or smaller? If it's a 'knight' maybe it would have some sort of suit of armor? What do you think it would have looked like? |

The Hell Knight was an afterthought, if it wasn't the HK and the BOH names would've been swapped and the new BOH would have chest armor and a matching helmet.

Having some kind of armor would be unfitting with the style, none of the monsters have that, this isn't Heretic. Giving the HK the head of another beast is enough, I think that a lion HK would be pretty cool.

I think giving the Hell Knight humanoid legs and removing the horns would be enough...save the satyr look for the Baron. Maybe take away the Hell Knights projectile attack and increase the movement speed to set them further apart.
But I have to agree with what has already been said...no armor. That would look so tacky in Doom.

The zombies have armour and the revenants have armour though.

Zombies are possessed corpses of military personnel...of course they have armor.
The revenant was rebuilt from pieces of fallen hellions...which can include said personnel.
Plus, I was referring to medieval armor.
