www.cnn.com/2018/02/12/health/peter-rabbit-movie-parents-boycott-bn/index.htmlSorry for the CNN link. The new children's movie Peter Rabbit has a scene where the rabbits become informed of the human antagonist's allergy to blackberries. The rabbits attempt to inhibit him by slingshotting blackberries at him, one of which lands inside the man's open mouth. The man falls backwards, gasping for breath, about to go into anaphylactic shock. He then reaches into his pocket producing an EpiPen, injects himself with it, and falls over from exhaustion. Parents have been boycotting the children's movie as it makes light of a potentially fatal and deadly condition. As we all know, we do everything movies tell us to do. Sony has offered an apology but there's still some uproar on twitter using the hashtag #boycottpeterrabbit that doesn't seem to have calmed down yet.

I have seen films in which people get murdered. Or what about films that promote uncontrolled rage and violence, such as Happy Gilmore? We should boycott those too, for the sake of our children!

Forrest Gump has a scene where a little boy with braces on his legs is attacked and called stupid.
Physical handicaps are no laughing matter and should be taken seriously.

What's with Sony making the public apology? Does that actually do anything, or is that just expected now?
"Hey sorry we just spent 100 hours filming this scene that none of the actors, animators, editors, camera men or scriptwriters questioned the whole fucking time we filmed this dumb movie. We never gave a fuck about allergies before but since you guys are being bitches about it, we want you to know that we never thought any of this shit was entertaining to begin with."
Sony should just own it.
"Yo fuck kids with blackberry allergies and fuck you for thinking you have power."

I was thinking about this the other day actually. A huge part of the reason that modern people are so thin-skinned is because the media is very careful to tip-toe around certain special interests and minority groups, being sure to refer to them only with the most sanitized and positive language they can, and never making fun of or having even a light-hearted laugh about anything that could possibly be considered "offensive". The more you do this, the more those special interests and minority groups/protected classes begin to think that anyone who doesn't do this is automatically a hater or is out to get them. This is why much of modern comedy is so sterile and boring these days, because you can't make jokes about any group that might get offended.

Making light of circumstances and being hateful or mean are two completely different things.
