Last manga I read was Revenge Classroom and I checked out the latest chapters but it has lost the edgy appeal for me.

haha every single dub to ever exist.. and then you go to a site that reviews anime and you get "Saber has the personality of a brick", when actually the real brick was the American scene girl who just happens to look pretty when she cosplays. But people don't want to read subtitles because "those are for weebs and otakus!"

That said; this is just hilarious.

The influence of anime on my life can't be overstated.

It made me noticeably more positive. I was a rather cynical kid back in high school. But anime is full of optimism and a lot of it is centered around the idea that all people are inherently good, it's just that some of them need help in order to find the right path. It might be a naive thought, hell, it probably is, but I still find it encouraging and it makes me like people more. There are also many stories about appreciating nature (e.g. most of Miyazaki's output), enjoying every moment of our short lives, believing in yourself, overcoming the overwhelming odds no matter what, and all that inspiring stuff. Somehow anime is able to take these simple, often childish ideas, and make them seem incredibly powerful and refreshing.

Due to how heartwarming a lot of anime is, it can be a great escape from the everyday stress. Now, this is kind of a dangerous territory. I feel like it can be rather easy to fall too deep into the anime hole and become obsessed with it to the point of losing all touch with reality and basically any interest in the real world. It certainly happens to some fans, so this danger is something you should be aware of when dealing with anime. But it shouldn't be an issue as long as you're healthy and good enough at self-control (and surely you are, riiight?).

I feel like anime also helped me better understand my sexuality. I think for a long time it was quite difficult for me to admit that I find some men very attractive in various ways, so I was kind of in self-denial about it. But anime is full of really likeable and beautiful males, and I guess since they are not real it was easier for me to accept that I'm attracted to some of them. It was a process that took several years and I'm still not certain where I'm standing, but I think I can confidently say now that I am not 100% heterosexual, and anime helped me with getting here.

But maybe most importantly, anime made me interested in the Japanese, which is currently the biggest passion of my life. Never before did I study anything with such enthusiasm. I'm absolutely loving the language, learning new exciting things about it every day, and never getting tired. Now I'm even able to make a little bit of cash by translating it for other people to enjoy, so that's pretty cool. Maybe in the future I will get somewhere with all this, but even simply as a hobby it's absolutely fantastic.

You can list all anime you've ever seen, rate and comment on it if you want, use the advanced search, get notifications about upcoming anime, etc. It's really helpful.

I guess I'm hoping to see more long and thoughtful posts like mine in this thread. I often find it a little difficult to discuss anime on the internet. It's like a lot of anime fans don't really have a personality: instead they are just reposting memes, parroting whatever their favorite YouTube reviewer said, furiously defending their current obsession no matter what, or always speaking in that snarky self-mocking 4chan-style tone that makes being around them really unpleasant. I don't know, maybe they're all really nice people in the real life, but I'm not seeing it on the internet. Anyway, you guys are different, right?

haha, I have terrible timing.. but yeah I agree actually, although it was actually shitposting memes with my friends and forgetting to delete my Youtube history that led to me accidentally getting hooked on anime. ;P

I do have some more indepth posts to make and this will be a fun place to do mini reviews whenever I finish an anime.. but it's like every hobby, really... sometimes posting lighthearted shit is just another way some people show appreciation for stuff they enjoy, along with making serious posts.. like with metal and any popular series; except in this case it alienates ousiders and is cringier, haha.

Anime has always been a part of my life. Doom too but I can only possibly be half weeb because I'm also half Japanese. So I guess that makes me both a weeaboo and a westaboo because I do love those anime space westerns. Though Gunsmith Cats might be the most western anime out there (edit: and has some of the best 90s anime aesthetics out there! M'wah!). I love it and it should be watched while eating macaroni & cheese and drinking thou favorite American beverage or whatever makes ya comfy.



I can't get into the cute moe anime scene and there are people who just gobble that stuff up. I know I have felt like watching one of those cute happy Animes after a bad day though and after watching Legend of The Galactic Heroes I went straight for anime babes with Triage X to soothe the brain. Also I cannot stand the artstyle of K-On or Love-Live; just no, they are trying to eat my soul. Anime has helped me many times when I've felt down and it cheered me up but I particularly remember a time I had a fight with a friend and words from a character in a D. Gray Man episode helped me feel better and find peace. People don't like the last two episodes of Neon Genesis Evangelion but it meant a lot to me as someone who has a depressive thoughts now and then watching those episodes. I don't know a lot of Japanese so I should really get on that :/
I really enjoy the old cel animation from the 90s even though I grew up watching mostly 2000s anime. I'm not even all that sure what nostalgia feels like because I've been around most of the same stuff as I have almost all my life. Maybe I can feel that way about certain toys but growing up playing doom and watching anime while still doing those things today is something I don't know how to feel about. Good thing I don't think a lot about how I feel about something, because I just make sure to listen to my heart!

You seriously half Japanese bro? You should get on that and heritize yourself, learn to speak your other tongue and become a fuller version of yourself... anyways have an American knock off of a Japanese series intro song:

Look up Cybersix for an even more western anime. It basically totally looks like an American cartoon. So maybe you wouldn't even call it anime, heh. Also studio Gonzo made some interesting experiments with American style in the 00's, see e.g. Red Garden. I wish there was more stuff like this. It's great when anime tries to appeal to the whole world instead of focusing on very Japanese-specific themes, which are fascinating as well but sometimes rather limiting.

I enjoyed moe stuff quite a lot in the past (Lucky Star is my most rewatched show ever), but at this point I feel kinda tired of it. I think nowadays I don't like seeing all these super obvious attempts at pandering to my stereotypical male interests. I find them almost insulting, like if the creators are treating me like an idiot who just wants boobs and cute girls or whatever. I'm stupid, but not THAT stupid, okay? Well, of course, not all of these series are for brainless people, and many of them are really good at building peaceful mood and so on. But still, partially because of this, lately I've been watching a lot of stuff made primarily with females in mind. Since I'm not the intended audience of these shows, I can have a more outside perspective on them, and I think that's a very good position to be in.

I totally loved the final of Neon Genesis Evangelion! The last two episodes made me pay more attention to the screen than anything else in the series. It was really fascinating to see psychological analysis of the characters, and the whole sequence had such a surreal tone... I like stuff like this, I like when creators aren't afraid of doing unusual things, even if it means pissing off just about everyone. I almost feel like it's a shame that they went on to make that movie, because wouldn't it be awesome if there was nothing else after episode 26? It would be such a crazy way to end everything. Well, I guess I can still see End of Evangelion as some kind of alternative version and consider episode 26 the one true final. I think it's a bit shitty when creators don't know when to stop and keep adding more and more stuff to the world. Like all these Rebuild movies, do we really need them? I lost interest after the first one. But I guess they want the moneeey. $_$

I'm also a big fan of the old visual style. Something about it is so warm and genuine. And it demanded more from the artists, which is a good thing I think. Nowadays lazily drawn stuff looks REALLY lazy because anyone can slap on some cheap effects or draw extremely generic clouds (I wonder if they even still draw them or if there is already some program for basic stuff like this?). But in the past even really cheap drawings required some effort, and it really shows in my opinion.

Ahh, I need to learn this skill! I used to be like that in the first years of watching anime, but over time I started analyzing more and more, which is a good thing in some cases, but I also think that sometimes it's extremely important to suspend judgement and simply take in whatever you see on the screen instead of overthinking it. Don't want to become some boring grumpy critic who's completely full of himself!

Except I like both of those, too (although I much prefer MMA to wrestling).

Well, I think with most of us; the stuff we sperg and the stuff we watch are mostly different. I dunno... that whole "anime is Cancer, should be illegal and weebs need to be arrested and put into ovens" meme is far too amusing and funny to not jump on, especially since I jumped on it before I started enjoying it... the meme was made funnier when the pioneer of anime said "anime was a mistake" (I think he was disgusted with the modern "slice of life" style of anime), haha.

How exactly do I use the spoiler tag? I just realized posting "muh cool fight scenes" might be a bit dickish if it gives away pieces in the plot, especially with titles like "XYZ gets killed by ZYX", haha.
