Also, sgt mark is a glorious troll, 10/10 darknation seal of approval. Watching troonworld shit their collective nappy every time they remember that he's still alive never gets old.

My thoughts on brutal doom aside... it's hard not to see the humor in that no matter how polite and inconspicuous an OP is: the spergery on all sides stays the same.

I just love his "I work harder than anyone else" garbage. I had to tell him he was an idiot who was dropped on his head as a child, his remarks were nothing short of bullshit. It's all in fun for me though, I'm not offended by his presence.

He worked so hard to get his mapset to crash Project Brutality, you all have no idea smh.

I can't even bother to attempt to bring any sense into the debate. Doomworld is a magnet for people who have found every possible way to say something derogatory and mask it in a joke or a meme for attention. It's really disgusting.

Sergeant Mark doesn't have a chance, even if he was being completely cooperative. Doomworld is so chock full of snide pessimism and passive aggressiveness that they've all been dying to have an enemy to explode on for years. The sad part is even if this gets way worse it still won't be out of everyone's system. Doomworld is very broken.

dude, it has always been like this. At least once a year the community goes either full civil war between sites (ala newdoom), or there is a fucking anarchy of spastics over individual projects (the kditzd effect), or goes full exceptional and decides that certain doom ports are halal and must die because Allah commands it (csdoom drama, skulltag vs everyone etc.)

And this isn't even including interpersonal firebombing between the individual nickbakeries. The forever dumpster-fire war of Brutal Doom might actually be almost unique because it contains elements of all of the above types; you have the Othering (Brutal Doom is not from Doomworld, reeeee), you have the single project Brutal Doom master race drama, and at this point I'd almost consider Brutal Doom to be its own port (it has all the fuckin' hallmarks of one, including it's own community. How many doom mods have their own community?)

Oh, and it has a author who helpfully smuggles (content removed) out of the country hiding in his source code, which is way worse than Hitler.

I consider *all* of this shit to be basic community hygiene. You don't want a total forest fire, you fucking burn the scrub instead. You don't want that boil to go toxic, you lance that shit. Retards are either booted or neutered, examples are made, lines are drawn, everyone knows where they stand and the lulz flowed. What *has* changed is the balance in the force; flamewars on DW are now fought because some gimp with an anime avatar got zir precious fee-fees hurt and automatically sprayed pheromones / HRT as a defense mechanism, alerting the swarm that the hivemind is under attack.

Fine, business as usual in the community. But man, the intellectual high ground that DW used fight every war from is now a distant fucking memory. And, as any fule kno, occupying the high ground in a battle is kinda fucking important.

In short, Doomworld is fucked beyond redemption at this point. Stop mourning for a site that fucking killed itself.

Those examples are all on point. I must have pulled the wool over my eyes during those times or something. I just kinda figured we'd all get better with age and be able to fight bigger battles, but everything is so small and petty anymore. It's not even funny, there's no useful content to read, it's just admissible trash.

I guess after a busy day I still have lots to catch up on that Doomworld thread.

See, this kind of thing and the shift towards sensitivity and being politically minded in the Doom community is a large part of my step back. I just don't fit in with that, so I'm reluctant to join in the non-Doom conversation. Then, on the other hand, the things they make and play don't interest me that much either. Xaser and Jimmy are good still, but my general excitement for community content is long dead. I'm actually looking to get back into Doom strictly for mapping, rather than the community, as I've not had a creative outlet, really.

I'm not saying I'm an artist who needs one, mind, but I like making stuff, particularly when I'm good at it and learning more about it. Breaks up the gaming and TV time. I'm not sure what a lot of Doomworld has in common, really. It's almost like everybody is there because the alternatives either don't exist or aren't prominent enough.

I think that the problem with Doomworld that once you spend enough time on it, it becomes so predictable its scary. I just fucking know what kind of replies to expect just by looking at the thread title and/or OP. Which is kinda why I like seeing newbies and just regular members expressing "radical opinions", like I dunno... like the whole affair with BD. Just by seeing the thread at the beginning, when it was only two-three posts, I KNEW it would devolve into a another "SGT DIDN'T GIB ME CREDIT" "SGT IS A CRIMINAL" "SGT'S HEAD IS TOO DEEP IN HIS ASS" and stuff like that. Worse thing is, when people just continue to pound their arguments despite deeply knowing no party would give up, so they pull "gambit moves", like "Name me a reason X is Y and I will..." and stuff like that (which of course, they don't end up doing, but serves the image I guess). I might suck at expression, but you guys can surely relate on this matter and see what I am talking about.

I guess Doomworld is great for the dooming aspect of it, like the tech behind scripts or source-ports, but when it comes to discussing hot topics, it just ends up looking like a pre-scripted circle-jerk of a singular opinion, so I laugh merrily whenever someone attempts to intervene by stating a different opinion, and not in a "heh, loser" matter of laugh, but a "yes yes GO ON!" type of laugh, because, tossing a pebble in these cogs is so fun
