It's a bit odd how he disappeared from here but I think he's alright and imo he was thinking from some time to leave the Doom community, until he finally decided to make that step (though this might be all bullshit as well).
Now for something more Doom related Vanilla once again proves to be best mapping format as a method to make a conveyor belts and use them for Boom-like "scripting" was developed. This was brought up by Doomkid and answered by Bloodshedder a few months back. Basically the method used is opening the wad in Slade and selecting the option that checks for Duplicate IWAD entries and then it spits out the list. Takes a couple of seconds and can be used by mappers to check their own shit is clean before uploading to idgames. Saves a fuckton of time and headaches, just delete the entries in your own wad that come up on the list if you have any and it’s all good to go. If you’re using a modified id resource, it will be different to the iwad and not show up on the list. No conspiracy here, REKKR was rejected many times for months before achieving a clean upload.

PS20A0 is a tricky dastardly fellow indeed. Let's get a good look at this troublesome cunt:  This little fucker worms his way into more mapsets than not, and if you don't do the Slade checkee, you'll be in for a nukage dive without a radsuit. An easy solution would be to just patch this little cunting sign onto the texture of your choosing and put it into your wad as a single patch texture, instead of being efficient and creating that texture out of patches in Slade. Legal ain't always logical, more often than not. |

Romero needs to be criticised. He's a human like everyone else. You watch what always happens to people when they never get criticised; they start believing their own hype. They become like George Lucas, where they think they can do no wrong because they are surrounded by sycophants who praise their every move, like the toadies over at Doomworld do to Romero. I remember when he released his E1M8 and they slobbered all over it, giving it a Cacoward and sucking his dick in the comments. The best thing that could happen to him is for him to get smacked back down to Earth like he got smacked down 19 years ago when he released Daikatana. It'd give him some grounding.

I agree that Romero is not above criticism and that giving a release date, then failing to meet it, kind of sucks. I also see no good reason for barefootstallion to have gotten a warning - ok, what he says is unpopular and people have vocally disagreed with it, shouldn’t that be enough?
On the other hand, you have idiots like TheLamePhillicheesesteak suggesting that Romero should be SUED - I mean, god damn, that is easily the most fucktarded thing in that thread by a country mile. I simply could not resist shitting on him. Frankly, fuck any leech who’s mind goes straight to a lawsuit when things don’t play out exactly as they wish.

It wouldn't have been a true Romero comeback without a shitstorm happening and the delays were kinda hilarious. Though the "shitstorm" was just few people arguing without much drama, it could have been worse. I thought that finally something happened for real when the thread was re-opened after it was locked 2 times in few days but we still don't know when we will get to play the fucking wad. Maybe when it will come out we will see people throwing at each other's throat for real.

At the risk of contracting HIV, I ended up reading through some of that thread(not all of it because it was about 54 pages long). From what I gathered, the argument from the horse guy is that Romero is making everyone wait for the free wad because he wants the people who paid money for the cute toys and collector's shit to be playing the wad at the same time everyone else is. Ling argued that a lesson from Kickstarter is that not prioritizing bigger donators pisses them off, so Romero is right to make everyone wait until the physical copies can come out.
As I see it, comparing SIGIL to Kickstarter is apples to oranges. Kickstarter is for software that's not free. SIGIL is free. The only things that's are not free are the shitsies that you get for collecting purposes. So if Romero released the wad now, literally everyone could play it at the same time, paying customers and people who just want to blast through the wad. So what if people have to wait a bit for the physical stuff, why should that impact the ability that everyone has equally to play the wad file? I could be missing something though. What do you guys think?

I think you both raise valid points, as a business it makes sense to prioritize your paying customers but from an egalitarian perspective it makes more sense to just let everyone - payers and non payers alike - enjoy the wad. Here's the thing though, not only is that S O C I A L I S M but I wouldn't have gotten several doses of lulz from that thread if the wad was released on-time, and since what I want matters most, I'm glad all those suckers have to wait! HA HA HA! fwiw, I bought the 30-something dollar version, the Basic Bitch Box, the box art is awesome and it will look great on the shelf. Drama and me being deliberately stupid in this post aside, I can't actually believe people could be so outraged by a wad being delayed. If you have so little going on in your life that a wad being pushed back a couple of months gets your panties in a twist, you have serious problems. I'm sure it will be a good wad, damn good even, but there's so much out there to play in the meantime..

It’s quite something the level of entitlement some people have in a community with the most vast amount of free content, the quality of which is mostly on par or superior to the base game itself. Gotta be something to do with the nature of its freeness... freeloaders indeed dn, and spoiled impatient cunts. I hope the free version gets delayed even more, really it should be a whole month at least after the paying people get theirs. As the Kid said there’s so much content to play in the meantime, I suggest people jump on the DBPs of which there are 11 currently and good for 80 or so maps.
