As someone who loves gentleman class spergs, I love old threads of basically any site.. Im really glad all the worry was for naught personally, I would never want people to pay me for Doom wads, but would have been pissed if Brutal Doom was hit with a C and D.

I guess the recent speedmapping sessions count as a happening. Chaingun tricks and strategies by the master of disaster 40oz himself. Some good tips in here for chaingun usage in a mapping context, so I’m mainly putting this one here for easy reference for myself as it is useful advice for my gore prisons map which can only contain zombies imps and demons.

How much drama can there be? It's a mapping session! Heh, that's what everybody thought. I'll try to retell it to you "briefly", sorry if I got any facts wrong.
So. There was a time when NaZa took barely any part in his own (Eagle) sessions. Session #5 (August) was compiled by a guy named bonnie, #6 (September) was compiled by myself. Additionally, he hasn't mapped for it since #2 (apparently he just doesn't have access to the PC during session times). Moreover, those sessions weren't even uploaded to /idgames (he's gotten around to uploading them just a week ago or so).
Naturally, people were starting to get annoyed by his negligence. Things were starting to get more and more intense, since NaZa is honestly really not the best at project management, and this was not the first project he was failing.
So what happened next was this: NaZa started throwing fits. He made a thread for session #7, but it was written in some sort of very edgy manner. (IIRC: The time given for mapping was reduced to 45 mins, target port was changed to Zandronum instead of Boom, there was a requirement that the maps should contain Hebrew text (as a homage to some nutty guy who showed up on DW at that time), etc.) And also his posts were becoming more and more existentially edgy, he would give very unclear allusions at the fact that this is the last session etc etc etc.
EDIT: forgot to clarify that this edgy session never actually took place.
But the crowd wanted to map. So, bonnie stood forward and organized a "bootleg" Eagle session, which he titled "Pigeon". It was more succestful than any Eagle session to date (got 17 maps, while Eagle never had more than 11 IIRC).
NaZa was stumped by that, but for some reason (I don't remmeber why exactly anymore, heh) decided to hold an actual Eagle #7 after all. Guess what, it got half as many maps as the recent Pigeon, only 8 (two of which were mine lol). He has announced that he would put a lot more care into Eagle from now on, so bonnie announced that the Pigeon sessions would take place only around some holidays and would be holiday-themed as well.
However, the success of Pigeon #1 made bonnie kinda cocky. So, the second Pigeon session (took place 04.11, on Thanksgiving) got 12 maps. Less that #1, but still totally not a failure. Not for bonnie though, he legit expected 20 maps and got disappointed so goddamn much that he announced that Pigeon would not be held anymore. Even if everyone else found those 12 maps to be quite decent.
That's it for now, but there's probably gonna be more. :]
UPDATE: literally an hour after I wrote this, it has been revealed that Pigeon will still exist under new leadership. Told ya there was gonna be more. |

Seems to me that the real point of that exercise (making a bunch of maps together for fun) gets drowned in a sea of petty arguments. What a waste of life.

Since I can’t reply directly, I would like to respond to this post in the photos that could be great Doom levels dw thread. Fuzzball posted some Gunkanjima photos. I’m posting this to remind people that the esteemed GreyGhost achieved this inspired by Block 67 way back in the heady days of 2013:   I miss GreyGhost. The dude was a scholar and a gentleman. I would’ve liked to meet him while I was in Tasmania a few years back, but never made it as far as Hobart. He hasn’t been seen for over a year now in the community and given his age and what he let known of his medical history, it is natural to assume he has left this place behind. GreyGhost, it was always a pleasure to see your posts and I felt a dignified air when you were in the house. Walk on brother, walk on. |
