Seeing as there is already a thread on here for games that are widely seen as great-excellent that one doesn't like, I decided that there should be one regarding the polar opposite.
What are some video games that are considered by many people to be terrible, bad, poor, or mediocre in overall quality that you happen to like and enjoy? I'll start with a couple of said games that fit the bill IMO.
Dudes with Attitude for NES A rather unusual puzzle game. You can choose from 6 playable characters, all of them cicles with different facial designs. (for example, one has shades and has a little smile, another, named "Patch" has an eyepatch on one eye and a small mustache, and one of the two select-able female characters is called "Babe", with pronounced lips. Then, there is "Bozo", who literally has a clown face, with equal-armed cross points for eyes) the group is out to find ancient Caribbean treasure by changing to its respective color while avoiding many hazards and enemies before time runs out in a stage.
Megaman X6 Yes, its one of the weaker games in the X series, but I say Its over-hated. The music is AWESOME, and while they could have done the Nightmare system better during development. Either way, The Nightmare viruses can be somewhat of a pain at times, especially when they infect the Reploids that need rescuing; even more so when said Reploid had a use able armor part. Its neat that Isoc is heavily implied to be Wily in another mechanical body after X2. The Maverick Weapons here are typically also neat to me.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies Sub-Zero. Anyone that likes classic MK should like this game. The gameplay is EXACTLY the same but with a button for turning around.

This one is hard. I don't really know what games are disliked that I like that I have played.. I would have said out of the Zelda games my favorite is absolutely Twilight Princess but I would have to say I liked Skyward Sword or something to really qualify (my god having to beat that one boss over and over was enough for me to almost tap out). I can't say Final Fantasy 13 either because that game could make even the most ambitious person become suicidal.
I instead will pick a game that no one I knew personally had played before until I suggested we get drunk and play it: Micro-Machines 64.
Micro-Machines 64 is without a doubt my favorite party game. In college there were about 20 of us who would chill in the lobby of our dorm and play poker, board games, etc. Micro-Machines 64 brought down the house the first time I brought it in and became an instant staple of the group. This is because you can play with 8 people by sharing controllers.
Used to have tournaments by splitting up in teams of two.. we all got so loud that residents started to complain about the yelling. Was great times. Miss the days of playing split screen type games with friends.

Are you for real?! But it's the opposite of what OP says: Deadly Premonition is a very shitty and overrated buggy trash that everyone praises. I had a bit of a hard time trying to find a negative review of this game actually. Whenever somebody brings up the obvious issues this game has like godawful controls and graphics, DP f@gs will say 'YoU diDn'T UndErSTaNd AnYtHinG, ThAt'S AcTuaLlY tEh PoiNt'. Every rewiewer who acknowledges that gameplay wise this game is trash will go out of their way to say that it's done on purpose to scare away beta gamers who don't understand geniality of the plot and dialogue or some shit. But if this game didn't have retarded plot with goofy characters, it would probably get scores like 2/10 and nobody would give it the time of day. Am I wrong here, Zach?

Am I wrong here, Zach? i mean, it's the most polarizing game in existence, you'll find a negative opinion every single time it's discussed (speak of the devil), even the ones praising it will generally "admit" its gameplay flaws. i still found its gameplay and open world somewhat enjoyable in a b movie/dadaist kinda way, it's not conventionally good (i'm sure a lot of it stems from genuine developer incompetence) but plenty of things already are. i don't care about cutscenes and dialogue enough to praise a game only for them, i'm ordinarily no storyfag ackshually, just a twin peaks fan. speaking of pretentious shit i like pathologic 2 a lot more, that one's gameplay is quite deliberate tho, you won't find as many people who find it outright bad, just ragequitters probably

forgot an even more obvious one. daikatana (with the 1.3 patch) Yes, that's totally obvious. Already with 1.2 it was playable, but nothing beats turning the sidekicks off in 1.3. Also the Russian Doom2D of the 90s - I found really neat - although it never got more than 'meh' ratings by the community. I really enjoyed a couple of AxySoft's games - AirXonix and AxySnake, which IMO, were among the best implementations of the respective game mechanics. However, I'm not sure if anyone viewed them as 'bad', or they were just not widely known for whatever reason.

Not really sure what the consensus is on this game since I've never really heard much discussion on it, but Aquanaut's Holiday is one of my recent PS1 obsessions. There's not really anything to do in the game, you just swim around and explore the ocean and try to communicate with the local aquatic species through sonar. You can also build a coral reef to attract more species, which is basically the only goal in the game. It feels like a game you wouldn't really see until the PS3 era, and it has a great atmospheric soundtrack. There's also a sequel on the PS3, but it only ever released in Japan, and my PC isn't good enough to emulate that system so I've never had the chance to play it. A similar game on the Wii, Sea Monsters: A Prehistoric Adventure, is basically the same thing as Aquanaut's Holiday but its on the Wii. I think it's a tie in game with some shitty documentary. You can play as different prehistoric marine life and swim around the ocean. Probably even less to do in this game tbh, but it can be pretty scary at times as you can actually be attacked by bigger fish, and the scale of the environment can be fairly overwhelming. Another awesome soundtrack on this one.

During the Super Bowl (which I could give less than two shits about), I totally lost track of time and missed the rest of the game, while deathmatching with a friend in it.

Castlevania 2. I understand why it gets shit on a lot. Lame boss fights and bad localization on top of some already cryptic BS being the major ones. I do think it's a solid entry in the series though. It melded an rpg and action platformer fairly well for the time. Still prefer the traditional oldvania style but I played the hell out of it as a kid, loved it and still think fondly of it.

> Castlevania 2 Yeah I liked that one too. I was into tabletop D&D at the time, and the box art reminded me of AD&D module I6 (Ravenloft), so I just had to get it. I also had fun with Shadow of the Beast on Amiga 500, which apparently a lot of people don't like.

Castlevania 2 Simon's Quest is great. It was the proto-SotN. First Castlevania I owned and beat. I think I saw the original Cv in action at someone's house first but can't remember if I played it myself then. I did play through and beat a good PC remake of Cv 2 but couldn't figure how to find one or two items in that version. There's yet another couple remakes which I bought and haven't played yet. Got the physical edition of one. www.retrovideogames.store/game-downloadsThere's some really good rom hacks of the original. I applied Redacted and Retranslated+map each on top of the Moody recolor hack, but never tried Redacted in combination with Retrans as I'm pretty sure they would really conflict. Apparently the Japanese Famicom version was a excruciating with loading and having to flip the disk over, especially when a monster knocked you back off screen to the area you just came from and had to flip the disk twice just to get back where you going with plenty of load time. The Famicom disk system version made use of more capable sound hardware but I think the US version of the music turned out badass and the Minibosses did some great renditions of it. Something interesting is the MSX Vampire Killer was a Castlevania 1 with elements of Cv2. I haven't gotten into that one yet. www.romhacking.net/hacks/1288/

Played it with a few romhacks myself. The little things people have done like speeding up the day night transition are really nice.
I'd rank the MSX as the worst one easily imo. Sort of reminded me of very early dos puzzle platformers. Stiff controls and the maps and gameplay weren't engaging. Pretty much lacked everything I like about the other games sadly.

Day of Defeat source, at least compared to other source multiplayer games, seems kinda abandoned so i'd assume most people overlook it but goddamn do I love me the complete insanity that is 'aroundthecorner'.
The original maps are great fun too and it makes me kinda sad valve forgot about the title.

I love this turd. Another one is this obscure shovelwareish game from around Doom's era, one of the things I still keep my Pentium around for:

I love this turd. I remember this game from when I was younger, I haven't thought about it in ages. It was one of the many mysterious PC games my dad had for whatever reason. IRC the box for this game has no mention of the bizarre Skittles cross promotion in game, and I remember being very confused by it as a kid. I honestly thought this was a fake game I made up in my head for a long time before coming across it as an adult lol.

For some reasons, I have somewhat warm feelings towards "Postal 2: Corkscrew RuLes". I guess this is because it was my personal "Postal 2 in post-Soviet settings" that I wanted many years ago.

Redneck Rampage. Unbalanced gameplay in cryptic levels but landing high-risk shots is fun. I count it as part of the big four.

Only played the first level over ten years ago. Having not returned to it since then, I doubt I had a fun time. Might give it another chance some day though. Haven't played Route 66 yet but I've heard positive things of its level design. About Deer Huntin', not gonna bother now.

I think a lot of Castlevania 2's bad reputation is owed to AVGN, the game is bashed by a lot of people who never held an NES controller in their lives. It was clearly designed to promote and sell Nintendo Power subscriptions, and also (maybe) to counter rentals. Other than that, it controls and plays like a classic Castlevania, and with the added open exploration, it is much more adventurous than the other two NES titles, not to mention the great soundtrack. It will get you stuck if you play it blind, but if you look up a walktrhough it becomes an enjoyable experience.
