can some one recommend wads

If you don't want to download anything from Doomworld, you can play the DBP series, there's 45 of those so far.

Doomworld is the oldest doom community and has stood the test of time. The /idgames archive is a product of Doomworld, and pretty much all of Doom's content has been hosted there for decades. Other people have tried to create their own doom content archive but it's usually kinda messy and missing a lot of stuff. Historically, the /idgames archive at doomworld is curated the best. There's no reason to be mad at doomworld for doing that.

There might be mirrors for these wads elsewhere but I have to look for them. Is it really worth being mad about? It doesn't serve them in any way to download and play doom stuff.

Most doomer boards members' frustration with doomworld is a result of being banned from their forum or being treated poorly by their staff. The downloadable content that has been archived there was started before the current forum staff took over, so that's a whole separate thing.

I don't think any one of the forum staff has executive control over whether the /idgames archive is active or not. They just control who gets banned from posting at the forum.

Ok, no slaughter maps here. I promise. First off, check the 'best of XXXX' lists. You will find an excelent variety of mapsets from those. here. Take your time and try picking an mapset from the 90s and a more recent one.

If you want a more personal, direct, curated recommendation. I can share with you the good stuff that i've been playing/revisiting for the past 3 months or so:

• Doom: Damnation (Ultimate Doom/vanilla)
• Obituary (Doom II/vanilla) *use the files from the 'fixed' folder
• Noisy Diarrhea (Doom II/vanilla)
• Ozonia (Doom II/Boom) *this is the deluxe edition, trust me, i prefer midi but the "real" ost is just fantastic
• Valiant (Doom II/MBF)
• Judgment (Doom II/MBF21)

These mapsets range from tricky to difficult. Doom: Damnation, for example, provides one of the best oldschool experiences that i've ever played - and if you're going for pistol-starting every map; you're up to some tricky but fun situations. Obituary features a lot of relentless claustrophobic scenarios that i'm really fond of - along with some fine enemy/gun replacements that adds a lot to the challenge/fun factor. The explosive diarrhea from some noisy person out there; features 32 fun, small, tricky, buttcrafted movement-oriented maps with devilish traps and cryptic exits.


Ozonia may be one of the best boom mapsets that i've played in recent years (made in Brazil btw), 29 (out of 32) small-medium maps with two nasty enemy replacements (mais que bixo feladaputa esse seu Helião, hein Tomás.. pqp) and amazing soundtrack - there's a couple maps that are more slaughter-oriented, so if want to skip them: 30 & 32. Valiant is balls-to-balls with Plutonia disputing my all time favorite title, so i'm constantly replaying it - just download it and you'll see what i'm mean (there's some slaughterish maps in this wad too, the ones that i recall from the top of my head are 28, 29 and 31). Haven't finished Judgment yet, but so far i'm having a blast - there's a lot of new enemies and challenging traps to keep you entertained. I'm sure you will have a lot of fun with those.

As for the G/ZDoom families (or mafia), there's not much that i can recommend. The only two excuses for me not deleting ZDoom from my pc are Pirate Doom (also made in Brazil) and Hell-Forged.

I'm not a big fan of gameplay mods in general, but since you like Brutal Doom - these are some mods that i enjoy playing occasionally and might interest you: Complex Doom (you will need Zandronum for this one) and D4V (Doom 4 Vanilla).
