EDGE-Classic is a Doom source port that provides advanced features, ease of modding, and attractive visuals while keeping hardware requirements very modest. Taking EDGE 1.35 as the base, the new fork has the aim of solving long-standing bugs and adding some quality of life features. Also, one of our primary goals is to have an EDGE that will run well on older or less powerful hardware compared to the 2.x fork. Right now it runs perfectly on Raspberry Pi for example. Why? There's already 3dge and even that has like 5 people who use it, and 1 guy who makes mods for it (ceejay).

UAC in Hapal did. But it shipped with custom build of EDGE and won't run in anything else. The custom build was an ancient version of EDGE and software renderer only. Not sure if it would even run on any windows after XP.
Marines of UAC was never released/completed.

Just a quick update that we've been hard at work on the next release.
Lot's of new features coming including an inventory system, vastly improved Heretic support, lots of new music support (even C64 SID!), new DDF and RTS commands... And the list goes on.

Excellent. Way back when it was called dosDoom and got Doom Definition Files a good ways before Decorate came around, I quickly made a big weapons patch for it, but I was quickly discouraged as I found networking was broken with inconsistency errors with its introduction and later updates as it became EDGE broke what I made. Then a more recent version I tried to play just crashed. Since then I've seen there's some interesting mods/TC's that have been made for EDGE and I'm looking forward to playing them with this. Just wondering about the multiplayer, did the networking ever get fixed? It's cool that at least it got 2 player splitscreen which is alright for co-op. Upping that to 4 player would be an improvement, making deathmatch and more viable.

They even removed the option to start a Multiplayer game from the Advanced Start menu due to it (in the code comments) "obviously not working." As far as splitscreen, I don't think EDGE 2.x had anything more than a barely functional proof of concept.

Same exact thoughts I had, shit like this is why I stopped paying attention to modern Doom sourceports. Too many pointless ports that all essentially do "modern features but still OLD SCHOOL!!". No offense to the creator as I'm sure you are mostly doing this hone your craft with programming, just there's already so many Doom sourceports. People really need to make ports for other games that have sourcecode available. I get a lot of what you're saying, despite some of it being pretty off base. If you consider extending features that have been present in the engine for almost two decades "modern features", then sure. I'm personally working on this because: 1. I needed something that would run on constrained hardware. At the time, a Pi 4 was my only computing device and it ran way better than other GL source ports. 2. The 3DGE codebase is too cluttered for my taste. I initially started by forking that, but gave up quickly. 3. I personally prefer DDF/RTS to ZScript and ACS.

How many different variants of chocoDoom are there say? Choco, Crispy, Sprinkled... Even ZDooms got several.
EDGE is quite different to most other ports, and it badly needed some maintenance. So here we are.

ah, 'cmon. there are always people who know what other people need to do instead of what they are doing now. the fact is that such Very Knowledgeable Persons will never be happy, even if others will follow their direction. fun fact: such people usually don't contribute into any project, and don't have their own projects. of course, they have a lot of Very Important Reasons to stay away. tl;dr: don' tell, show! can we look at those other sourceports you did, account_disabled? maybe you need some help, and we can help you with them? don't be shy.
