oh for fucksake, knock that shit off and stop linking to sites that are NSFL, we've already had to clean this fucking place up once in the past week. Chill out? The site isn't going to be shut down over one single link that doesn't even contain anything NSFW on the page anyways. To respond more seriously to this thread, honestly just do whatever makes you happy Vordakk. Fuck the criticism (including mine), if reviewing good WADS makes you happy, just do it. If not, don't do it. Your hobby shouldn't cater to pleasing the popular opinion of others, it should be about what YOU enjoy doing.

Honestly, why write a review if you don't genuinely enjoy it? What's the fun in that? To please a bunch of randoms on the internet? Who cares what they think.

Not the thread for it, so this is all I'm gonna say. 1) It's ED. The fucking advertisements are not safe for work 50% of the time. 2) It was a shitty thing to post regardless. 3) Posting links to shit like that, instead of actually putting some thought into replying, is about as lazy and contemptible as posting image macros, and even less amusing.

I have to agree with dn on this one Rush. ED is not exactly a SFW site and that site has questionable content that does violate the proboards rules.

Rush is right when he says you shouldn't feel an obligation to do something if you're not enjoying it. However, there is an element of knowing that you're work is benefiting other people in one way or another that makes it worth it. Whether it is entertainment or useful information or whatever, having fans makes it a good exercise.
To be clear, I do have an agenda: I'd like to see more people check this forum more often. So my suggestions are purely to bump up the entertainment value of your reviews by steering away from the things everyone else does and doing something a bit more special or original. It's not really my place to tell you if you're doing something right or wrong. I do want you, Vordakk, to know what I really think though.
Personally, I gloss over /newstuff reviews and barely read them despite the amount of work it takes to play and write a report about them. My suggestion isn't to stop, it's just to tweak it so that you're reviewing a particular aspect of whatever it is you're playing. That way your reviews may not seem like as much as work and people can get a very specific perspective on the wads you play, if that makes any sense.
EDIT: I understand the concern about the ED link but I think it's fine, the source material was linked in good conscience. I think bickering about the seriousness of it is more likely to draw unwanted attention than content of the link itself. We're just looking after each other, RUSH!

Alright, my bad. It was a rude post, I'll admit. I didn't mean it seriously though.

That way your reviews may not seem like as much as work and people can get a very specific perspective on the wads you play, if that makes any sense. I actually tend to agree with your assessment of my reviews, which was why I posted what I did. Looking at my post again, I now see how it could very easily have been taken as a "too cool for internet" type of post, which was not how I meant it. Sorry about that. I think you are quite right when you say that between the excellent kmxexiii and the /newstuff chronicles, good Doom reviews are pretty much already accounted for on the 'net. And I think you are also correct when you say that in order to make my own reviews attractive enough for the average Doomer to want to read, they need a new angle or gimmick. The problem is that as of now I have no solid ideas as far as what that gimmick could be, so for the time being I'm going to think on it before continuing to review stuff that covers well-worn territory. I appreciate you giving an honest opinion rather than one which I might want to hear, that's actually much more constructive. Thanks for that.

I just finished the wad today, and it was excellent, especially given the time in which it was made. Tony Sideris had a lot of great ideas that he crammed into this levelset.

G'day Vordakk, if you're still doing this I want to be selfish and recommend one of my own as I am a sucker for that kind of shit. Firetop Mountain v2 final
Large single map for GZDoom which requires hardware renderer that has origins in 1996-7, but mainly worked on and completed in 2012-13. The original 90s sectors are still in there too, I hate to delete anything and start again. My Downtown map 13 from D2INO has similar origins, with the opening building and street from the late 90s and the rest of the map completed in 2012 for that project.

Raven, 11 maps by Tim Willits (creator of E4M9 from UDoom) & Theresa Chasar from 1995.

You should review Cold As Hell. A megawad that is place in (1951?) and has a great story. Such a cool mapset.

Maybe that room is part of why the UAC headquarters is filled with Hellspawn. They probably didn't take kindly to UAC employees experimenting on dead demon flesh.
