It's amazing really, that so many people have fit themselves into a mold with minimal deviation. You could strip everyone of their names and avatars and you wouldn't be able to tell anyone apart. I really hope more people use this forum to talk about themselves and their personal interests in more detail. It saddens me to know that almost all other avenues of the internet have boxed people in to think that's unwanted or spammy. I like knowing what people are all about and everyone should be more vocal about that. There are some exceptions to the rule, but I agree. Luckily however, I for one don't fit in this box. My writing style is very easy to recognize, not to mention that I'm very open about myself and other things in general, so I could certainly be stripped off of everything and whoever ends up reading a comment of mine would be like "Yeah this can only be Agent6, this guy is unmistakeable." The problem with opening one's self is that on a lot of forums I've had experience with, including the one I took care of for a number of years, is that people just don't (want to) care about this, they just want something to talk about, everything else is secondary, they couldn't care less who they're talking with, and thus people are pressured into avoiding this subject altogether because "that's not the focus". I most definitely like hearing and talking about one's interests, passions, and so on to get to know the person better, you can never know what you learn. This can sadly also have negative consequences. People are very quick to judge and once they hear someone's X, Y, and Z they become intolerant and start avoiding the said person because they don't like what they're hearing. This talk actually reminds me of something we had on the aforementioned forum: Ask zone. People could just create a topic in this section and various members could come by and ask them something about themselves or what else they wanted to. "Ask me anything" was a very suggestive topic name.

Asking someone for credentials is probably off-message - people wish to speak without repercussions. Let them do so. Better forum enviroment that way.
Assholes have ways of making themselves known.

Well you could’ve done that without signing up, but then you wouldn’t have been able to tell us how you’re better than us. Good job!

I just gave EE a visit. That place became so pedestrian I'm surprised people post there. Talking about your favourite food or colours is not very stimulating. The only thing I miss about DW at this point is it's modding discussion.

Also i just wanted you guys to know that i noticed your project There are cool projects here, just like there are on Doomworld and Zdoom forums. I for one also don't map for projects anymore and I'm in that one phase where I essentially stop playing Doom since it's boring me right now and decide to either participate in discussion or edit wiki pages.

Some post in DW got me here, something like "if you want to be hateful leave us and go to doomer boards", I don't remember exactly. And I was like "Doomer Board"? What's that? Seems interesting if it's what I think it is. I didn't know there was this other forum where Doomers who might not be as PC have gone. 2-3 years ago I wasn't aware of anything, I was apolitical (and I wish I still was). But with all politics invading my hobbies and interests, I couldn't but notice something is rotten. I am still at DW and haven't really noticed whether this is getting bad there (but maybe because I am mostly in the Doom related posts and not other posts). It still feels like a cool community when they just concentrate on Doom (and much more posts than here). But I guess I am here because I want to read what's going on from this side of the spectrum, the voices that might not be heard at DW anymore.

I honestly can't remember the last actual political discussion (aka shitstorm) that happened on DW. At first I thought it was awful that they were gone as I personally found them super entertaining but I've come around to being glad that it's mostly an apolitical place now. There were sometimes kernels of an interesting discussion/debate happening but 98.3% of the time they were embarrassing shitheap threads that any normal person would see and say "welp im fucking off out of here forever" because of how stunningly retarded it could get. While that kind of stuff certainly has it's place on the net, I'm glad that the central hub of classic Doom just looks mostly apolitical to any newcomers to the community.
If you do want to get into a political shitstorm (I totally get it, they're fun) you'll have to do it somewhere other than DW. As far as I can tell that stuff is scrubbed off instantly no matter which "side" it takes or whatever else. For the reasons I stated above I've come around to being glad it is the way it is.
