The phrase 'neat freak' has a negative connotation, but I 100% respect their commitment to keeping things nice. People with OCD that need to keep things clean say its a curse but it's a curse I kind of wish I had. I have a pretty high tolerance threshold for things being 'good enough.' I was cleaning my desk for the first time in like 6 months. It sounds gross but I'm actually pretty good about keeping it free of trash and debris, but whenever I do clean I always wish I had done it sooner and more frequently.
I keep my places clean by living minimally. I simply try not to own many things unless I can make a legitimate case for using it often or it adding value to my life and surroundings. I also have no trouble throwing trash out as I move around my house, and tossing objects I don't use much. Having fewer things makes it easier to keep the surfaces in my house available to use. But on further introspection, i think i do this as a kind of crutch too. I don't make much effort at regularly cleaning, and instead I just live in a way that's not messy. Whenever I do clean, it definitely feels better, but I still avoid doing it as long as I can tolerate it, which can be pretty long.
I'm in a seriously cold war with dust right now. I'll do a light vacuum every couple weeks. The last time i seriously dusted (like windowsills, tables and chairs, behind appliances, etc.) I spent an entire day cleaning my house in a day and it was great until the dust caught up to me again today. I hate dusting electronics, especially. I hate the way it smears, sneaks into the little unreachable cracks, and I hate seeing the particles floating around reminding me that I'm going to need to vacuum the carpets later. I'll enable myself to put off dusting up until some judgey person points it out or until the surfaces of my equipment start to resemble more of a carpet than the plastic case it started as.
I don't know why I'm like this. I do like having things clean, and generally enjoy life more when things are nice, but without accountability, I will not force myself into a routine of cleaning on a schedule. I'll just tolerate a slow accumulation of minor dirt particles and drips, long after I think most people would. I'm not sure if I'm creating blindspots for myself or what. I will only rise to the occasion to really clean when something is extraordinarily filthy, like a spilled drink, or mud tracked foot prints or something. But when it comes to little fingerprints, smudges, drips, hairs and dust particles, I rarely feel provoked to act on it until it starts to get really bad. It's moments like this where I kinda wish I had a lower tolerance for perceiving things as 'dirty.' I wish I knew how to make myself more anal about these kinds of things. This kind of 'deal with it until it pushes me too far' approach is not ideal.
For years I thought it would be really cool if there was a youtube channel resembling "Epic Meal Time," where instead of making massive caloric monstrosities with way too much beef cheese and bacon, there was like an "Epic Cleaning Time" where bros would get industrial cleaning tools and chemicals and just powerwash kitchens and stuff that has been neglected for years. Any kind of cleaning stuff on youtube is very depressed chatty catholic housewife centric and its totally unwatchable to me.

There are "restoration" videos which are pretty close to the idea. Example here, just what I found from a search, not necessarily the best example out there. Skip to 18:45 for the "after" part.

> I procrastinate over cleaning. > Man I wish there was I youtube channel about cleaning so I can procrastinate over cleaning while watching people doing cleaning and not procrastinating.
The broadband revolution and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race.

dn BIG DICK NIGGAAs I'm writing this reply, I'm fairly certain that this a probably a fruitless gesture at this point. You don't really deserve any insight into my life, and I owe it more to myself to just shutup and walk away. Maybe someone else here will get something out of this kind of transparency though. For the past couple weeks I've been kinda backing off of this board. Some events largely out of my control have made my life suck lately and I've had to retreat to other things that inspire a little more hope. Going for walks, and spending more dinners with my family, etc. The reason this is relevant is that it's markedly clear that sometimes engaging with the people of the doom community is more often than not, a joyless activity. I want the community to be better, so I'll look the other way despite the sweeping misanthropy. I keep the forum unrestrictive so that communication channels are all open, but I don't get many answers on why members seldom feel comfortable enough to use it in any of the available ways. So I go ahead and create a thread like this to talk to you like I would my friends. Here's what I'm up to and what's on my mind, lately. What do you think? Then the outcome is I get to watch you talk about me right in front of me as if I'm not here with my browser open on my desktop and reading the replies. This thread really inspired nothing in you? Do I have to explicitly design my threads as sterile writing prompts with templates for you to talk about yourselves? None of the following comes to mind? - I'm a neat freak myself and this is why I am the way that I am - There's a neat freak I know, here's a funny story I know about them - I clean on a regular schedule, this is how and why I do it - I live a messy lifestyle and I feel fine. - I live a messy lifestyle and I'm in constant distress about it. pls help Who is the audience that you're writing your replies for? Why do I or anyone else who makes a thread like this deserving to be responded to in this way? Sorry to those who tried to participate cordially in this thread, and those who didn't reply but had a continued interest in reading it. This is the subject of the thread now.

It's an odd subject to write a 613-word post about, and it doesn't inspire any discussion either. It's just Fourty-Ounces detailing his relationship to cleaning his house with no interesting anecdotes, insights or questions, or really anything for anyone to catch onto. It left me puzzled as to what motivated you to type this all up and what motivated you to post it here. The question "Why did you respond then" immediately asks itself, to which I reply that I didn't want you to feel like nobody even read your thread. Usually when I write or send something to my friends (including my doomer boards friends ofc - my account here turns seven in less than a week lol) I do it with an idea of why they might find it engaging. For example when I post a thread about cuckoldry and the latest innovations in Doom mapping, I do it because I hope the other forum members will find it as entertaining as I do. Where? talk about me right in front of me as if I'm not here Huh? N-word I replied to your thread. "What the author was trying to say" is an established phrase if you're tr*ggered by the use of the 3rd person. Maybe it sounds a bit different in english, I translated it from my language literally. Or maybe it isn't a phrase in English at all. Lol I dunno what to tell you man. I know you're going through some shit in life not only through you mentioning it, but also because you're coming across as increasingly neurotic and intolerant of even slight critique (most visibly in your reaction to AD_79's comment about the latest DBP). I hope you figure your shit out. Going on walks is a good activity and so is spending time with your family. At the end of the day family is all we have.

well i've seen toxic communities and this isn't really one of them, maybe the low member count and freeze peach help. do dn and xeep eep deserve this prosopopoeia either if the natural reaction of most people looking at your op would be like "just clean bro?". is this grounds for complaining about "sweeping misanthropy?". did i need the chomo rights stuff either if we're going to be like that? sure everyone needs some tolerance for other people's bullshit, i don't really have a horse in this race but that's probably what some of the egotistical assholes who left lacked

I wasn't honestly sure the point of the thread, myself. I posted what I thought would be helpful but couldn't be sure if I missed the mark or not.
I thought it was one of the following:
- Request for advice on how to become more organized/cleanly - Commiseration/banter thread - Request for satisfying cleaning videos (things like power-washers, restoration videos, etc.)
I don't view Xeep's post in a negative light at all; I think he was just trying to participate. I appreciate that he does that since many times, threads don't get much engagement at all.
dn has a sardonic style, I didn't view it as an attack.
Lastly there's no "like" button so someone who passes by and "likes" your post can't express it without replying, and unless someone has something specific to contribute they likely would not reply. I think this reduces the engagement overall a significant amount. There's the "heh" feature, but it doesn't give notifications when used and isn't clear in its use anyway (some use it as a "like", others as a true "heh").
I get lots of engagement in DW via the "like" button and much less via replies. I realize the "like" concept is unpopular here, but even a silent like button that informs (notifies) the poster and no one else would be useful. At least you'd know that others shared your sentiment instead of stony silence.

Where there is demand there should be supply. If such content is not available - create it. You do have to be somewhat careful with industrial-grade cleaning chemicals, as they can destroy/harm normal household surfaces, if you are not careful. I keep my places clean by living minimally. I simply try not to own many things unless I can make a legitimate case for using it often or it adding value to my life and surroundings. This works until you have kids. After that it does not work so well. I don't make much effort at regularly cleaning, and instead I just live in a way that's not messy. My preferred approach too.
