What mappers who are currently inactive in the community or active but not recently mapping do you think left behind not enough maps? Or otherwise ended their mapping career a little too long ago?
I think my list might be enormous and full of wonder about what kinds of maps they might be making today if still currently and actively making maps today.
My list isn't final. As my mood changes depending on what kinds of maps I'm in the mood for playing I'll add on to this thread. I'm just giving myself a few minutes to jot what springs to mind today. I like a lot of different stuff for different reasons. I'm pretty sure I'll have a lot of mentions as they come to mind.

Leo Martin Lim only made one map ever(UAC_DEAD, also considered one of the best maps of 1994).
Also mouldy looks better than Mouldy, there's a reason it's put that way, it's just cooler. Same way as glenzinho and id software.

B.P.R.D. Is the first person that comes to mind for both disappearing too early and not having released enough maps. The guy dropped a few masterpieces/gems and then disappeared from the community probably forever.

When people just disappear like that I always wonder if they're still alive or just lost interest in the game or what. Also, welcome to the forums! Nice to see new faces around here. |

I wonder if he's still out there somewhere and if he'd ever come back and make some more maps. It's been known to happen, sometimes under pseudonyms. It is certainly possible. I think Doom occupies this perfect space between simplicity and complexity in terms of mapping. As a result many people find themselves drawn back to it later on. |

Chris Couleur (seriously? Eternal Doom only?) Strongly agree, I always liked those massive castles he did for Eternal Doom. It'd be interesting to see what he'd do with another theme, like a hell level or a city level. |

Not enough maps: joe-ilyaSeriously though I also wish fredrik Johansson made more than like 5 maps. The guy who made Breach and brigandine (idk the name) could also focus more on smaller scale stuff. Really big maps are fun and all, but when that's all you make, few people will spend time on each and every one |

If it is any 'consolation', I am back and working on tnt forever, so a dozen more maps of mine that were thrown out of TNT2 and then Revilution will eventually come out. And then I think I should finish "Mea Culpa" which is another 7 huge maps, though that will need some community support to get that behemoth finished. SO if they get done, I will more than double my total output of maps release in the last 12 years. It saddens me a little to see so many names in this thread, most of whom I know, or at least know of. There are many people I would love to see more maps from, most of whom have already been mentioned and so my only addition to this list would be Didy - the author of one of my favorite maps ever: SInedie, which won a cacoward back in like 2007 or something. |

Soz double post. Yes gggmork was a genuine genius. I was privileged to get to know him somewhat. He playtested Mea Culpa for me, my as yet unreleased magnum opus, and we used to chat sometimes. Clearly massively intelligent, and a really decent guy. Made extraordinary Doom maps too. My vibe was that he was quite fatalistic though, as some really smart people are. I really hope he is ok. Good call on listing him. His career ended far too early. He was only just exploring what Doom could do. One wonders what he could have accomplished had he stayed on. I was privileged to make a map with him, many years ago. It was Map 34 of the Claustrophobia 2 mapset. |
