The long ass title says it. Most, if not all of them, often refuse to fix major problems because the chance of the bandwagon moving to something else is the same as the world somehow fixing all its problems(except when the thing in monopoly dies, that is). Notable examples of this include, Steam for game distribution, Google for search engines(and a lot of other stuff, like YouTube), Unity(maybe even Unreal and GoDot) for game engines, Discord for instant messaging, Spotify for music, and DoomWorld for Doom forums.

For game engines Bethesda deserve a special mention for dragging the same bugs from Oblivion->Fallout 3->Skyrim->Fallout New Vegas.

I'm surprised that Google didn't make this list. Then again they own YouTube, so...

@bob Page thanks for the mention, although I initially didn't include it because to monopoly advantage doesn't apply to them since other users' usage doesn't affect a user(except YouTube). Also Lobo refusing to fix bugs is bad but they aren't doing it because they have a monopoly. Creation engine doesn't seem to be among the most popular.

Not a monopoly: you are correct.
But the mindset is the same "Everyone is going to keep buying our product one way or the other so screw them"

Internet service providers are the fucking worst. I can't prove it, but I'm fairly sure they they train their customer service staff to be belligerent and combative in hopes that you will give up on trying to correct something you're being unfairly charged for.

Its insane how there's no proper alternative to YouTube. For every other internet monopoly there is one (google -> bing or ddg, steam -> origin or gog) but YouTube is literally the only video sharing website out there.

Not to mention Redtube.

For every other internet monopoly there is one (google -> bing or ddg, steam -> origin or gog) but YouTube is literally the only video sharing website out there. Steam's alternatives have way smaller libraries of games, that's the problem. That's why so many people just don't bother to register for a gog account despite it being superior to steam in everything except the library. Also, even if you use an alternative to Steam, you're very unlikely to convince all of your friends to move to that platform too(for discussion and stuff). The only way out of this is people realising steam's problems, but that's just not gonna happen. I agree with you on YT not having any alternative though, dailymotion is more like a news site and redtube, uhh I got what I predicted.

I mean yeah but they're viable alternatives and people use them, even if for the occasional sale like the GTA 5 one a year ago or whatever. No-bo-dy uses dailymotion, and porn is cringe. All the flaws of YouTube yet nobody will use anything else. Might as well check out DM myself. Or Vimeo. I remember downloading spongebob episodes from there when I was a kid.
Edit trololol daily motion is a news site and Vimeo is full of woke bullshit on the front page + you cannot easily figure out where do you actually watch videos.

Apple with their stupid proprietary chargers. Why do Apple laptop chargers always break their contact and fray? Unlike other Apple stuff, there's nothing glamorous about that. It never happens with standard chargers for other devices. I haven't tried any Apple laptop with USB-C charging so I don't know, I would guess those are great because they're standard and replaceable with quality stuff, but I hear they're returning back to MagSafe. People seem to glee about MagSafe, but I hate that, because MagSafe = proprietary = crap quality monopoly.

There are little sites trying to break the youtube monopoly, like bitchute or others,. but they emerged after censorship as a reaction, so if you visit bitchute for example it's political bias towards the right (and might also have some far right content on your feed as for as I've heard). I am more happy with youtube as I don't post politics, just hobby stuff. And personality I am more annoyed by twitter on that aspect. On twitter you could follow creators to see what they are doing, and it would devolve into politics and snarky 140 chars without effort. I might start cancelling my account from them, but youtube is still my favorite for hobby stuff. I like it more as a social media than twitter/facebook and the likes (which I think are cancer for the brain low effort/high reward dopamine drug, way more than youtube that can have some interesting longer videos). And I think making a youtube alternative would be much harder to maintain, the amount of data from videos watched/posted daily is enormous to maintain, while twitter and others are mostly text and some pictures or animated gifs, but much less I think. Youtube scares me when I upload a 4k 3 hours DOOM video and it allows me to do that every day. It scares me how it's even maintained.

Apple as a whole is just making a living out of fooling people and making them think they're the best, just because expensive.

Also sorry for double post, but that big storage stuff is probably done in a similar way as cloud storage services, but youtube has to be the biggest because of it's monopoly, due to which thousands of videos are uploaded each day and multiple copies of them(different resolutions). Speaking of social media, all have their own form of cancer but I agree with YT having the least.

On places like Bitchute I think it's less about having a political bias and more of just being a place where that content is welcome to exist and is readily filled with so there just needs to be more content that isn't necessarily political to avoid that assumption.

Free speech is free speech, the right-wing / far right content is as legit as any other. I will look into Bitchute, sounds good (insert pepe frog here).
