These mapsets keep being excellent. Having a specific custom texture set with a limited color range helps a lot giving cohesion to what should be a bunch of unconnected maps, in a way "let's use CC4-tex/GOTHICTX" just doesn't do. Great stuff.
Edit: damn, MAP07 was especially good. Strong Tango vibes there.
This one felt a bit tougher overall than Circle of Caina. The consistency of theme across these projects is nice, as Phml said. It makes for a pretty solid episodic experience, although in terms of game play a lot of the mappers seem to resort to Revenants as soon as any challenge is warranted. Standouts are MAP02 for it's big verticality, MAP05 for the big open space, even though I just ran for it at the end as I was bored of chopping through hordes and MAP07 for feeling like a big adventure, even though it did wear me out with the heavy Revenant presence.Wasn't as keen on valkiriforce's map this time around, as it felt pretty HR-inspired. Glen's map got mean rather quickly for a MAP01, which probably set the tone, or at least my perspective of it, pretty early in terms of rough game play.
My map used to be meaner and with a little less monsters too, but 40 softened it a bit and also made it look nicer. Pretty happy with how it turned out considering I pushed it out in less than double digit hours which is unheard of for me. For me this mapset felt less tougher than Circle of Caina, good to see another perspective Phobus. Hope you can get something done for the next one!
I have to say that I am impressed with the quantity and visual quality of 40oz output in these projects. 3-4 maps a month, plus project management, critiques and polishing of submissions is quite a lot of work.
Killer5 streamed Forest Swords last night. Looked like he liked a good bit of it, but he concluded it wasn't as strong as the previous episodes. He did mention in his stream that he hadn't eaten today though, so he may have just been hangry. In future mapping, please be open-minded about criticism. You're reviews aren't there to hurt you, they're to make your maps a more pleasing experience to play. The goal is for people to have fun.
To be fair, this is advice I should be taking for myself too.
