Give me a map and I'll record a playthrough of it with commentary. I can be opinionated and nitpicky, but I enjoy giving mapping feedback. Personally I'm a perfectionist and when I receive criticism on an artistic endeavor, I like to get as much as possible. Take to heart whatever rings true to you and leave the rest.
-It must be your own map
-Specify the complevel and if you send a set of maps, specify the one you want played
-I will only play up to two maps by the same author per calendar month
-I plan to record and put these on YouTube though there's a slim chance in the future that I might stream it instead. If you don't want that just mention it in your reply.

shibainumaster Source ports and even Doom Builder won't open up the .bak file. Can you send a regular .wad?Nevermind, figured out you can just right click and rename it to .wad. I've never made use of a .bak file so I didn't know.

Their closets open in the area where the secret light amplification goggles are if you go into teleport behind the spider mastermind. |

For a nice surprise, try this map with RZDoom/LZDoom/Zandronum/GZDoom: www.mediafire.com/file/6grvjzoe17wqfjm/Babel3k.zipI can't take too much credit since it's a combination of different versions of one iwad map combined with someone else's map, but I definitely accomplished something to see and had to do some painstaking tedious excavating to recreate structure. You'll see what I mean. |

Thanks! Good, efficient playthrough! You were aggressive and efficient enough that you avoided one dangerous surprise. You never played much of Doom 1 after episode 1?! You should go and do that right now! Well I guess I should make more of a remixed version of Babel 3K. I don't think you realized you just played one of the most full 3D maps ever with no portal BS. Funny story, back working on Twango1.wad, I told NieMaMordy (ZenoPopo on youtube) that his Engine 3000 map feels like you're on top of the Tower of Babel. So I went and put it literally on top of E2M8 the Tower of Babel. First I mixed the original and PSX versions into more of a definitive version with the best of both. I guess with the teleporter taking you up, you just thought it was another area or fake room over room. At some steps, including the doorstep at the plasma rifle, you can run diagonally up onto borders of the top area and drop back down or on top of parts of E2M8's walls. In the map02 version you can ride the BFG pedestal down and up. Enter fly in the console if you want to really have a good look around. I put the restriction on myself that I was combining the maps with making as little difference in their structure or how they work or thing placement as possible, aside from adding the Nightmare Cacodemons outside the original borders and enemies into the deathmatch map area. I had to make the beginning doors into scripted lowering and rising floors though. I also got one annoying little square of different light level in the top area. I guess for a remix version I'll open up parts of the top more and trigger some step ladders to form to go up and down. Maybe add some floating marble demon blocks. If I have it in a compilation I'll try to have the NetherCount introduced earlier. On easy there's 1, on medium there's 2, and on hard there's 5. Maybe 5 was excessive, though you handled it well. The PSX version actually adds the Mancubii, colored lighting, and teleporter room (its exit), but is sorely missing the unique music, makes the outside a simple rectangle, and changes some textures. Unless you need the latest GZDoom support, you might want to try Gibbon's RZDoom or DrFrag's LZDoom. Their default settings are much more preferable. Doom CE seems to be the best version of PSX Doom as a mod for PC. |

Gokuma Ah, yeah that does make it cooler that the second area is on top of the first area's tower. As it is, I don't think it really reads to the player though. Having tall, distinctive towers on the outside walls that can be recognized from above and below would help a lot IMO. I have played E2 and E3 a couple times in the last few years and even a handful of times as a kid. I just don't like them, the maps all blend together, they're ugly, boring, and I remember getting lost. When I play the first DOOM now, I skip from E1 right to E4. At least E4 has three incredible maps mixed in with the mediocre ones. Not the case with 2 and 3. DOOMlets on suicide watch, DOOM II chads are so back.

Thanks lordlunch. Was fun to watch you figure out the map and the tip about monster blocking the lift was spot on. Forgot to mention that this was originally a speedmap for a speed running compilation, so the intended strategy is just to kill everything as quick as possible. Like-wise I don't consider pulling all the enemies away from the viles as cheese because it's very slow. You should have trusted your gut and did a little rock climbing at the end. |

Not the case with 2 and 3. Sorry but, what a basic take. E2 has plenty of decent to great maps, and so does E3. Far more inventive and wild. E1 - E4 are the nerdy kids who get all the answers right at school, E2-E3 are the rowdy scampers you ditch school with. I know who I'd rather hang out with. |
